Only in the last 40 to 50 years has our military tried to figure out why and try to train around it. We know RU has taken similar paths in their modern infantry and special unit training TTPs.

It doesn’t take much brainpower to figure out why a man would hesitate to kill another that he has no personal issue with. I don’t find it “eye opening” or mysterious at all. Being “ordered” to kill doesn’t change a thing. If conscription (draft) is considered then this should be even more obvious.
To minimize this, massive propaganda campaigns must be initiated against the men taking part and the productive class getting fucked at home. Both have to be deceived into thinking unnecessary wars that enrich those at the top by transferring wealth from those at the bottom are a good thing. Enlistment numbers stay up and men are more likely to commit atrocities when they believe and are believed to be “heroes serving their country” overseas while the homeland crumbles. In the muslim world you see the same thing but it is via religious instead of patriotism indoctrination. This is what the 99 virgins in heaven and martyr thing is. Same difference.

Summary of my long winded earlier post. Most people don’t kill just because. They need a reason to do so. This reason during wartime is most of the time manufactured and ingrained using deception by the beneficiaries in order to get people to kill indiscriminately on command. Hope this helps.
