Actually there may be an observable correlation. If you accept a broad interpretation of 'copycat' the chart below sure shows a consistent increase. Some due no doubt to population increase, but far from entirely. Copy cat could be interpreted as loosely as "What you learn you repeat" or the like. Perhaps that the more we see it the more we become accustomed to it and accept it.
What year did the definition of "mass shooting" change?
For argument's sake let's suppose that copy cat mass shootings do happen - why is it ok to immediately release all details of the right leaning shooters like the Las Vegas shooter (supposedly right wing) but never release regarding left leaning shooters like the Nashville shooter's manifesto (and every other mass shooter in the last several years)?
It seems to me that if we are worried about copy cat mass shootings, especially from right wing groups, which have been described by this administration as a bigger threat than Hamas, then why would they release anything regarding conservative groups' activities but not commie-leaning groups or individuals?

I could guess based on those charts (that I don't believe, internet and all that). They include gang shootings on Saturday night near a school as school shootings, its all bullshit. However it has been proven that people are impressionable, just like the kids that off themselves that all go to the same school. Remember, half of the population is dumber than average, that's pretty figgin dumb. This is neither funny nor entertaining though so I'll shut up and let this get back to cool pics. Prelock Smiths are definitely not disposable here in kali. The original bronze T-Grip makes it even less so.
It is BUT the definition of "mass shooting" was changed sometime during the 2000's. The change in definition could have been a major driver for the uptick in numbers rather than just being a "copycat" response.
There is no standard definition for "mass shooting." I cannot find the link now but IIRC, but the FBI defines "mass murder," as the killing of three or more people.
