One of the real joys of being in Valparaiso, Florida, is waking up too and spending the day, hearing the fast movers as they take off and land and fly in the pattern. F-15’s, F-16’s, F-22’s and F-35’s. The F-22’s are the loudest. Being more than 3/4 of a mile away, on take off with full afterburners lit, the sound even with muffled ears, is deafening, and you literally feel your body vibrate. Kind a reminds me of a lefty snowflake describing having fired a .223 round in an AR15 (That weapon of war, firing the most powerful round in the world
). Now the F-22,A REAL WEAPON OF WAR, and darned near the best weapon of war in the world.I forgot the point of the post, I so love it when they turn out of the pattern pulling G’s and seeing the contrails coming off the wings. DAMN I love those fast movers. (Love those Cobras, Loaches, the evening chow bird and of course the Freedom Bird.

Look exactly like my White's packers, wondering what/why is strapped to them.
Slippers so you don't chew up the floor of the tavern.
I would think it was to keep the spikes from digging into the wood floor.
Those are spiked logging boots (called "corks" (?)). The wood plates on the bottom are/were to protect floors from damage from the spikes.
Out here in the Pacific NW, it was common for establishments (restaurants are/were a good example) to require them. When the crew would go to lunch, they were required by the restaurant to either put on the plates or remove their boots before entering the restaurant.
If you look close, they are a set of caulk (pronounced cork) boots. Lots of steel spikes on the soles for working Timber. The boards strapped on are to protect floors from the spikes.
Still got mine. They aren't necessary now that I live in AZ, but damn if I'm going to get rid of them. Hell, I may just get buried in the damn things. Pro Tip, do not walk into the house wearing your corks and step on your mom's linoleum entry way. Ass beatings will ensue even if you are a strapping 19 year old who knows it all and dead tired from a shift. A hickory shirt doens't stop the sting of a wooden cooking spoon by the way.
A second free pro tip. Opening her oven and putting your boots on the door with the oven on to heat them up so you can fill them with oil to waterproof and soften them periodically will also not go well.

Never thought about logging boots, not common at all in my area, makes perfect sense
And seeing the pic on my laptop instead of my phone I can see the logger heal and some "corks"
I liked my White's packers for the those days in the saddle when footwork would also be mixed in.
Damn comfortable and supportive boots!

Love my Whites too, 2 pair of Packers and a Pair of Alaska work/loggers. Painful purchase, but when you have an 8-1/2 F foot with a high arch good boots are hard to find.
The funny part is that they ARE older than some of my coworkers.
