It barely got past 360k feet and didn’t achieve escape velocity. Big difference between a ballistic flight and an orbital flight. All these bimbos did was get above the magic “astronaut line” at 50 miles on a ballistic flight, you get a brief period of weightlessness on the parabola….
Not sure their capsule would “get” scorched on re-entry because it barely left the atmosphere and was going WAT too slow for friction to scorch it.
IIRC you have to hit 50 miles or just over 80 km to get astronaut wings. That is far below the 17,500 mph that is needed to achieve escape velocity/orbital trajectory. According to the Interwebz… blue origin was going just 2,000 miles per hour.. or Mach 2.6.
Concord goes at mach 2+ and never scorched the paint… and it was 1960’s technology.
Mach 2.5 doesn’t scorch things like an orbital reentry from 17,500 mph+.
I still think the whole thing is BS… but not because of scorch marks.
Besides, these are women. They should know how to use a hot iron without leaving scorch marks….
Sirhr
To add one more perspective… the German V2 rocket flew the same height. Carried an explosive payload of 1600 lbs (not counting the nose cone itself. And was done with 1940’s technology. This was a publicity stunt. And I would not put it past them to fake it all. But they didn’t have to… except to protect the lives of 5 bimbos. This was backyard garbage…. Not even close to what SpaceX is achieving!!!
