The ammo in the stripper clips I'll say is not 30-06. Looks like 8mm. Also standard 30-06 ammo will not fit/feed from a standard 8mm magazine box floor plate assy. The 30-06 is usually too long. The 8mm mag box will only handle up to a just under a 3.300" oal. Depending on the ammo in 30-06 it will run as long as 3.340".
Don't forget there where a ton of imports of surplus WW2 K98ks brought into the country. Alot where capture guns by the Russians. If it was a Russian capture guns normally had a X stamped on the receiver and they sometimes peened out the German proof marks as well.
