I just received my Howa 1500 in 308; while I was waiting for it to get here I went ahead and ordered a Timney trigger for it. I picked up the rifle today, and I was really surprised at what a sweet trigger the factory set up was. Can a Timney be that much better? I'm going with the DNZ one-piece rings/mount
to that I'm using a Tasco titan 30mm 3-9x42. And I'm thinking hard about having the 22" pipe cut down to 16" and having a Teludyne tech barrel system added.

Any thoughts, concerns, advice about this setup? I'll use it for hunting white tail deer here in S.E. Alabama.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

You may have gotten lucky, but the triggers on both of my Howas were not that great even after adjusting them. Ended up with Timneys on both of them and never looked back.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

I have 2 Howa 1500 rifles . The first one was adjusted by the gunsmith ( around 2 lbs ). I just received one on a custom build and told the gunsmith I'd adjust the trigger myself . It was heavy from the factory, over 4 lbs if I remember right. I adjusted the screw twice to get it where I was satisfied and tightened the lock nut on the adjusting screw. It is set on 2 lbs 2 ozs and repeats perfectly . It passed safety checks after it was adjusted . Only problem I ran into was the locking nut is some oddball size and you don't have much throw on the wrench . I would shoot the rifle before I went to the expense of having it cut and buying more stuff to put on it. The link was interesting but the oal will probably be the same after you had it sleeved with the muzzle brake on the end . It will also add weight and make it more muzzle heavy . If it is a hunting rifle you won't be shooting 20 rds as fast as you can pull the trigger and I am sure you can find a hunting load that will do at least 1 1/4" without the weight and expense. Now if you want a cool rifle you can take shooting go ahead and try it. I like 'cool' stuff myself. I couldn't find approx weight that is added to the rifle , I'd ask them before I had it done to a hunting rifle.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

I have a howa ranchland in 223. It now has the nicest trigger I have ever had. From the factory it came pretty good but wasn't perfect, when adjusting it I could get it to have not creep, and a nice pull weight but then the safety would bind up. Out came my file, and now I actually like it better than any rifle basix or timney I have shot. Here is a link you may be interested in.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

I will attest that the new HOWA triggers are much better than the ones they were using say 3-4 years ago. I bought a 223 about 4 years ago and it was horrible, I replaced with a Timney trigger. The 308 that I just bought was heavy from the factory but about 15min of adjustment and safety check, its good as the Timney.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

I decided yesterday to fiddle around with my trigger.

What do you know, its now set really nice. I managed to make a little cloverleaf last night at the range, so im now impressed.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

Is your howa the heavy barrel 308? 20" or 24"? Couldn't tell from your first post. I have the 20" heavy barrel and have been having issues getting it to group well. I've only tried hand loads of one bullet and two different powders so that may have something to do with it...

Re: Howa 1500 ??

I'm still trying to find where i like my trigger, but so far the stock trigger is very nice.

Granted, i have it set where it negates the safety feature... Oh well, dont chamber a round until you want to send it.

Re: Howa 1500 ??

If you follow that link to longrangehunting it shows how to file it to make the safety work with no creep and low pull weight. You basically have to file off the front face of the trigger.
