I have an Obermeyer 1/11 twist that I am going to chamber for 308. I will be shooting 168's and 175 smk's. What would be the best reamer to use and I ask this becuase PT&G has a bunch of different reamers for 308. I was thinking of getting the 308 match reamer... Any ideas would be appreciated...

Re: 308 Reamers

Not being a smart ass but try the search function. I know there were a couple of good threads on this just recently.BTW I use the Obermeyer print reamer I got mine from PTG

Re: 308 Reamers

I use the match reamer. But I shoot the 155 scenars and 185 scenars. IUt works well for that.
If you are going to get into the throat and the freebore dimension is critical to you then look at the prints of the different reamers and see what matches your planned load. IIRC the bisley has a long freebore to accomodate different kinds of military factory ammo issued for certain matches and the Palma match was for the 168 and 175 SMK.
I have 2 different .308 with the match reamer and they both shoot great. It even likes the Barnes TTSX hunting bullets.

Re: 308 Reamers

Call PT&G and ask for Dave Kiff. Tell him what bullets you want to shoot, listen to him carefully and give him your credit card number. The perfect reamer will show up in a couple of days or a couple of weeks if they have to make it.

If you're running the AI magazines use the Bisley reamer and dont look back.

Roscoe, I noticed in the other thread you stated you liked the Bisley. Is the PALMA too tight or is it for the 155's only?

Re: 308 Reamers

The 1995 Palma is a great reamer but the Bisley lets you have a slightly longer COAL while in the lands and still be in an AI magazine box.

I think the Bisley is a better choice for AI mag feed rifles.

Re: 308 Reamers

do you guys own a lathe or is it possible to ream without a lathe? Thanks. Just wondering if its wor getting a good reamer if I dont own a lathe.

That being said I too just got a 1-11:25 OBY barrel in .30 cal.
I plan on running a M5 bottom metal, so which you think would be better for that.

Yes, it's worth it if you'll be building another rifle later on. Same reamer will allow you to use your brass and current die setting from one rifle to another.

The Bisley

Re: 308 Reamers

With the 1995 Palma reamer your COAL will be in the high 2.78-2.79" range and with the Bisley you'll be in the Low 2.8" range.
