I am hereby dubbing the loss of flesh from your strong side thumb knuckle "Remington Bite".

I think every new 700 I shoot removes a chunk of skin from my thumb.

The new SPS Tactical AAC-SD got me today.

I think I could hear it going "nom-nom-nom"

Re: Remington Bite

Put some ointment on it then post the review and videos of the budget build.

Re: Remington Bite

AKA rail-bite?

AKA the last straw in my unwillingness to upgrade to DBM?

Yeah

It's coming, but the weather today was not conductive for accuracy testing. Heavy rain and gusting winds jack targets up pretty good.

I did try out a Caldwell target board and threw some orange peel targets on it. They worked well in the rain. Enough that with both 175gr BHA and 168gr FGMM the rifle shot sub-MOA. When it dries out I will get some 5x5 groups with some various ammo.

Re: Remington Bite

Is there a chunk of flesh sitting there somewhere I didn't see?

Re: Remington Bite

Remingtons are hungry to make things bleed I guess haha. Is this the rifle in your instructional video on base bedding?

Good to hear. I just got my AAC-SD in and I'm looking forward to see your build with it. I'm going to use a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x mil/mil which, I believe, you are using also, correct? Did you also decide to go with that B&C M40 stock you discussed in some other posts?

Thanks for all the great reviews and info on your site, btw.

Re: Remington Bite

"Remington bite", good name for it. What always gets me on the thumb, is the knurled zoom ring on the Bushnell. Missing a hunk of thumb from shooting yesterday

Scope looks the same......

Yes, I am using the Mil/Mil Bushnell. I will have a separate review on it as soon as I can run a tracking test. Judging by yesterday it's pretty close. I used the data from my 20" AE and dialed for hits out to 440 without a problem. That is the current limit of the range I was at.

I have the M40 stock sitting here waiting for that build stage.

However the plan is to maximize the stock rig before replacing components.

Nah. It stayed attached before I pulled it off. It usually cuts a nice half moon shaped flap.

Re: Remington Bite

I've never had this problem, I don't even see what part is hitting your thumb. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Re: Remington Bite

When you are loading rapidly you will sometimes catch a sharp edge on the inside of the receiver. It can be the inside of the ejection port, feed rails or other.

If you go slow you may never notice it. If you get in the habit of operating the rifle as fast as possible it will bite you once in awhile.

This. I'm going to put one on my 700, and hopefully this will make the choice easier. Looking forward to the review.

Re: Remington Bite

It holds promise. We have a reduced IPSC steel plate at 440 yards on the berm. I dialed the dope I use for my AI and rang it. That's not any kind of definitive test, but it tells me the scope is at least close.

When I get a nice day I am going to check tracking to a simulated 1000 yards.
