For those who own or have shot the SN-4 1.5-6 with JNG reticle(s) - how are the hash marks working for come-ups in the 400-500 meter range? Is it easy to pick up and use the hash marks or do you mostly dial in your dope?

MOA or Mil will both work for me, but my older eyes need something with enough separation and thickness to see. No problems with my NF 2.5-10 NP-R2 as an example, but not much joy with the lines on my PST 1-4 (too thin and appear too close together to be useful *for me*).

I'm looking at the SN-4 1.5-6 for a semi-auto .308 that gets use for longer range 3-Gun events (50 to 450M); general range use, and plinking to 600 Meters or so. 6X for these events is generally optimal (for me using the NF on a SPR). The USO 1.5-6 appears to be ideal, I just need some hand holding on the reticle usefulness before I jump in. This will be my first FFP scope, btw.

ETA: Do you actually use your illumination on the SN-4? I plan to forgo the illumination so I can put the windage on the left side.

ETA #2. The Dual Focal Plane version is on order. Thanks for the help.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Also how forgiving is eye relief?

My experience with USO noticed eyerelief finicky for quick shots. When they say 3.5" they mean it.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Well said, Bill!
Pretty much the same experience for me with my 1.5-6.

I have the original illumination knob and the JNGMOA.
I had no problems making hits on Larue's at 500 yards using holdovers with my .223 AR-15. I much prefer a Mil, MOA, or IPHY reticle to a dedicated BDC reticle. I am no spring chicken, been wearing prescription glasses to shoot for about 10 years.

I seldom use the illumination but someday I may use it.
Very pleased with the scope.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Another reticle option you may want to consider is the C2. With the solid one mil markings it makes it very easy to use for holdovers. I use this on my 3 gun set up and have made first round hits with my heavy metal rifle out to 600yds. On clarity and seperation of the mil lines I feel that there is plenty of seperation, and I wear glasses and have for about 20 years. As for foregoing illumination for windage on the left side, call Jeff at USO and ask for this with illumination on the right.
I do not experience the tunneling at 1.5, I shoot both eyes open at this magnification, nor do I see clarity issues at full magnification. My SN4 is new, and uses the new push button illumination. I say this not to discount what was stated, but to say it is not present on my optic.
In closing, I love this scope and enjoy the confidence I have in knowing that if I place my reticle on the target and do my part I will make my hits.

MGM,

Our posts passed each other in cyberspace. Thanks for the additional feedback and I'll check out the C2 reticle.

Red or Green? (Which happens to be my state's official motto as well.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

I just picked up a used fixed 6x USO I am very pleased with limited time I have behind it.

This is pretty much a dedicated hunting setup. I was considering a 1.5-6 but decided I would seldomly come off of 6 power and if I need I can get a aimpoint to mount along side for fast close shots.

My particular scope is setup moa/moa. I think I perfer the moa reticle to the mil due to less cluster of the hash marking.

If not, C2 is what's coming in on mine-its a great reticle for the application.

DFP:

Thanks for that - I just ordered the 1.5-6 with DFP. Specs:

Reticles, based on what is being made right now:
FFP:#138 Mil Scale
SFP #137 Segmented Circle with 1 MOA Dot at 6x. I calc this to be 4 MOA at 1.5X, but Jeff thought it would be 4.5 MOA.
Green Illumination
Slimline Elevation
Zeroing Knob for windage - since it will spend some time on my Heavy Metal rifle, which is a FAL. (FALs don't like things hanging out over the ejection port.)
One Piece Low Ring @ .980".

I was told to expect it by Christmas. Here's hoping I did not screw up.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

I own the 1.5-6x SN-4 with JNG MIL/MIL - it lives on my 16" AR.

I dial the dope for most shots, as the smallish mil-scale is best used for ranging and the EREK knob and 1/10 MIL adjustments makes dialing so easy.

I have done holds for 200 and closer and it works pretty good on 6x. Otherwise its too fine to use for holds.

I love the sight picture at 1.5 though. Its like using an EOtech.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

I built mine to primarily use the reticle for elevation holds. I have a Slimline #1 elevation, 10th mil, and the JNG reticle.

For man sized targets at your questioned distance, yes the reticle and scope work well very in this application.

I do use the reticle lighting on low power for close up shooting. It is not an Eotech, but it does work.

The dual focal should just make things better for you.

You're gonna love the 1.5-6. It goes back and forth between my 556 and 762 Mk 12 Mod 0 clones.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

I've got 3 SN-4's, all have JNG. Long range/high mag. settings aren't where the JNG's strength lies. The SN-4 with JNG has replaced my Aimpoint M4s', use it as a red dot at 1.5X. Very fast. For me, a more accurate optic from 20 yards on out.
If you ever use it on a .308, look at the EREK option. You can set a holdover with a quick twist that you can feel/count in dark, not looking. If I could have only one scope, this would prob. be it. They are that good.
Something like this.

AM9000,

Thanks for the input

Please tell me your eyepiece is out of focus... I would be really disappointed to spend this much and not be able to use the reticle for holds; at least to 400+ meters on a 12" gong at 6x; 10" plates at 300, etc.

I zero everything at 200M, so I'm not too concerned there.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

It works for holds. At the lower end of magnification though, between 1.5x-3x I cant pick up very much. I would rather dial known dope than take a chance on a shot with a hold when on 1.5-3x - the reticle is very small.
I was shooting steal out to 600 yards this last weekend on 6x with no problem landing 9/10 shots on a 12" plate with xm193,
With a grip-pod.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Shootist - mine is zeroed at 200 yards. A place I shoot it a lot I have an 8" round plate at 440 yards. Holds on this target are not a problem on 6x with my Mk 12 Mod 0 type rifle. A 2.2 mil hold comes to mind for a 77 SMK traveling at 2800. As hash marks are every half mil, this is not a hard hold to do.

That would not be an "issue" and would even be expected, I would think.

9H - Understood, thanks.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Thanks Luke. I've seen those pics before and it's one of the reasons I decided to go with the USO 1.5-6.

The only FFP reticle that available *right now* for the dual focal plane model is the #28 Mil Scale (1 Mil Separations). Possibly that's a good thing for the 1.5-6, although I'm unsure. Are you able to pick up the smaller .5 Mil lines easy enough?

I could be happy with 2 MOA separations - if that were an option - since they would be a little more precise than the full 1 Mil lines (plus I'm using MOA on my NF). I may email my sales rep and ask for a heads-up on any new choices that come around before mine is built. But I'm very guilty of wanting it "right now".

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

Shootist, try to get one with an illuminated reticle. Look at Luke's pic at 1.5X, it would be easier to see/acquire if illum. At 6X, easy to see hash marks, don't worry.
Exit pupil is large and bright. The SN-4 is compact and relatively light.

You're going to be happy.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

How is the eyebox on the 1.5-6 SN-4 at 6x, Does the reticle stay focused if your eye is off center a little? I have seen and heard of this in some first focal plane scopes, just wondered if anyone here has noticed it in their 1.5-6x28 SN-4.

Re: USO 1.5-6 Users - Q's on Reticle

I did add the illuminated reticle(Green) and went with a zeroing knob for the windage.

But I'm a little concerned on my choice for the elevation - I went with the 1/10 Mil Slimline instead of the EREK. The sales rep said the Slimline would work fine if I wanted to dial up on the fly.

Any opinions here are appreciated, considering I've never seen either.
