Was thinking about getting the Sightron S3 8-32x56 for F/TR shooting. (600-1000yards)

Anybody use this scope? What are your experiences with this scope?

Also, looking for pictures with this mounted on a Savage 12 F/TR rifle (EGW HD F-Class 20moa). Will medium rings be high enough?

Also, looking for pictures of the mil-dot recticle at 600 and/or 1000 yards.

Thank You

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I run the bigger brother, the 10-50x60mm.

The glass is very nice for the money. On par with the Nightforce BR series.

Unfortunately mine had a crooked reticle. I have sent it back, and am waiting patiently on their reply. I went with the Target Dot model to try and keep the reticle as thin as possible for things like F/TR shooting.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I have a 8-32x56 SIII LR with the TD. I have had very good luck with it. Tracks true and has a large amount of eye relief. I have mine in low burris ext rings on a 20 MOA Lawton rail on a Lawton 7000. It sits just off the barrel.

I'm running TPS Low (.925") rings, but my scope base is rather tall @ 0.520 above the top of the barrel.

For your application, I'd measure the distance from the top of the barrel to the top of the scope base, which should be shorter than mine. Find the difference, and then add it to the height of the rings and you'll be very close to my setup.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

You won't go wrong with the SIII. Sightron makes a good scope. My experience with them was that they tracked repeatable and that the glass was very good for the price level. They have more adjustment range than the comparable NF BR. I don't think that you will go wrong with one.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

Since you're thinking of getting one for F-class, the 2011 model 8-32x56 will have exposed turrets and 1/8moa clicks. Probably worth waiting for.

Also, you probably want a finer reticle. I used a Premier with the Gen. II XR and felt the crosshairs were thicker than I'd like for F-class. A standard mil-dot reticle has similarly thick crosshairs. I eventually went with a Nightforce BR with an NP-2DD reticle, which has a visible yet very small dot in the center.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

Another plus for the Sightron. I'm using the 10-50x and its great for the money. Very clear glass, tracks true and the clicks are positive.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I haven't owned one of these but I've looked down quite a few and been very impressed. The glass is very clear, tracking is great, 1/8th moa clicks makes it perfect for F Class, tons of internal adjustment and a couple reticles to choose from. Not a damn thing wrong with that!

Would you have the model number for that? How do I tell if it is the 2011 model?

Also, I plan to do some shorter yardage target shooting. That is why I was thinking Mil-Dot. Will the Mil-Dot be that big of obstruction at 600-1000 yards? The target dot seemed so fine, that it looks to me to get lost in the target?

Anybody have recticle pictures at 600/1000 yards?

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Is this the model? SIIISS832X56LRTD/TDT

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I have the little brother S3 6-24x50 Mil-Dot. Absolutely love it! Glass is very good, turrets feel good, tracks perfect, excellent customer service. I'm thinking of getting the 2011 models with mil/mil as well. Mine might be for sale soon.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I have one and it is a really good scope for target shooting, mine has the fine crosshair and they are perfect for me to shoot F class target all the way to a 1000yds.
It tracks perfectly and it is as clear as the nightforce BR I compared it to.
I am about to buy a second one.
hope this helps.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I ran one for a little while on a Remmy 5R in IOR low rings on a Nightforce 20MOA base. Like has been said before, it sat just off the barrel.

The scope itself was great too. Repeatable (for a target scope, I never tortured it) and reliable. Rating glass quality is so subjective, and will vary from eye to eye, but I'd say that it was a bit better then my Leupy Mark 4s.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I was just looking at the 8-32 this morning. I went to another f-class match just outside of Memphis and I'm hooked. SWFA has them with the 1/8 moa. I'm sure it's priced right. It's a GTG place to buy.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

So i have done some research and I've come to the conclusion that the sightron is a great scope even when compared to a nightfore as in glass, turrets and realiabilty is also excellent. The big questions is the durability factor of how well its made to handle the field against bumps and hits or drops compared to say a nightforce. Keep in mind i do own a sigthron 8x32

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

i have one and im really happy with it. i have it sitting on a 24" grendel in a burris PEPR mount. i have 3 SIII's and 1 SII Big Sky - super happy with all of them.

Re: Anybody using Sightron S3 8-32x56?

I like the 8-32x56 Sightron but....
The side AO is very fussy. On hot days with alot of boil going on,its very hard to tell boil from focus.
On hot days it makes it almost impossible to tell if your getting the parrallax out.
It has one of the shortest depth of focus that ive seen in this power of scope.
I thought the side to side eye relief was pretty critical.
It repeated very well and tracked spot on.
Glass was very second rate Leupold like. But passable.
All in all a soild scope for the money.
But.....

How was your scope? Did you have enough elevation adjustments? I kind of have the same setup.

2nd rate glass? if you really think that, call sightron and talk with a tech or try and get a guy named stephen on the phone. hes their lead guy. the glass is pretty even with nightforce.
