What cheek rest do you use?

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Just put an XLR on our HS Precision stock. Made a couple threaded sleeves to go thru the stock to keep it from compressing the sides of the stock. Looks to be very well made, not bulky and reasonably priced.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

That XLR one is sweet. I could get that until I could afford their chassis system

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

had a karstens, have a tacops "soft" style now. going to order an xlr next.

the karstens was nice, you can boil it to your stocks shape.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Anyone wanna give me a list of the hardware you used to mount the XLR on your current stock?

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Joe Ducos installed a Terry Cross adjustable cheek piece in mine and its awesome!

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Well, I made mine on my lathe. Used 2 pieces of 7/16" round stock cut to 1.6" long, bored a hole thru them and tapped them the same as the screws (1/4" x 28). After positioning the rest I started off with a small 1/8" bit coming in from each side them progressed up to the 7/16" bit and going clear thru to true up the holes to each other. I only had a short piece of round stock to work with but I'll see if I can dig up another piece if you can't make a set and make you a couple.

I think someone on here sells a set but can't remember where I saw them listed.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

I think if you just put a Triad Tactical stock pack on, its a win/ win situation! It comes with spacers to raise it up if needed and it has the pack on there that holds six rounds and a candy bar! I just got one and put it on my HS stocked Savage .338 Lapua and it is perfect!

+1 for Joe. I should have ordered a T2A instead of a T2...but now I have a T2A

My buddy is sending him a McMillian or HS to do. I can't remember which one. I believe he will mill/alter the hardware to fit a stock that is too narrow.

Good luck.

Do you have photos of the spacers? I went to their site, but they didn't list spacers for it.

That would be awesome dude and greatly appreciated

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

I use an eagle stock bag with extra padding added underneath.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Its not pretty or sophisticated, but I've had success with layers of moleskin, or cardboard and tape. On all my precision AR's I put down soft velcro on either side of the stock (not putting any where my cheek weld is), and I velcro a piece of SAM splint on when I need an extra quarter inch or so.

I'm with this crowd, Joe does great work. Here is a T5, with moulded in GAP camo, that he recently did for me.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

I tried the Eagle stock pack. I had to add a little extra padding to raise it up. It would roll around and just didn;t work right for me.

I ordered a Karsten kydex one woth the exposed knobs. Works much better and similar to ones on my other rifles.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Where is the best place to order the Karsten cheek rest? I have been interested in them for a while. Thanks

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

You can order from Karstens, or from TacticalWorks. They only have the "B" model available currently.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

This may be a stupid question, but what's the difference between the A and B models?

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

I made mine from a piece of .070 aluminum. I glued a piece of !/8th in foam to the outside and hook velcro to the inside. Then placed some loop on the stock. Modeled it after the Karstens but I didn't have to drill the stock. We might just see a Karsten option C sometime.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Eagle stock pad with pouch. If it needs to be higher, I just cut a piece of the pad in one of those useless RCBS wet lube pads. Glue it into place with some hot glue and it doesn't slide around. If you want to remove the padding, the hot glue pulls right off.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Karsten rocks. By the way, Karsten is a great person to do business with. He has had to ship me a couple different sets of bolts because I keep on mangling them (long story). Anyhow, just a week ago, I asked him if he could just ship me the adjustable thumbwheels so I could quit bugging him. What was at my door step 4 days later? Karsten doesn't ask for a penny of reimbursement, not even for the shipping he pays, which appears to be about $2.25. This guy is awesome! Thank you Karsten!

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

i need 1.5inches of lift on my stock and use the RAT Grip product with a stock pack over it (it's ugly as sin otherwise). Works very well and doesn't need anything more than a heat gun.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

It's hard to beat a built-in, adjustable cheek piece like the Terry Cross but I've used the Karsten and have an XLR on my Savage, both of which have yielded good results. Heck, if you don't need adjustability, a sock and duct tape work just fine, too.

Re: What cheek rest do you use?

Sotech Sniper Skid Plate...velcro'd and para-corded. No more sweaty cheek weld drift.
