I am new here and have a question. I am shooting a dpms panther lr 308 carbine sportical and experiencing a jamming issue. Once fired the spent cartridge does not fully eject and it tries to chamber a fresh round. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I'm going to guess your using the metal magazine, try and try out one of the Magpul composite mags - they cleared up 90% of my feeding/failuretofeed issues.

Or send it in, DPMS are better than some about fixxing issues.

What kind of ammo are you using? It almost sounds like your system may be undergassed. Its your bolt carrier staked properly?

The part of the bolt carrier where the gas tube sits in when its in battery. If the bolt are loose it can cause malfunctions.

It is a factory dpms sportical carbine in .308
Just left the range about 50 rds lighter with no jamming.
I guess the rings on the back of the bolt face are called gas rings. Well I adjusted them a considerable amount away from each other and tied 3 coils on the recoil buffer spring.

FYI these guns like to be run wet. Make sure you lube the crap out of the carrier with something like this http://www.militec1.com/

From a full mag to half mag to 5 rounds. The other day I shot a hog and took 1 shot w/Fed Premium 168 gr Sierra match king and it jammed after the 1st rnd.(BTW she dropped in her tracks!! Thank goodness!) And yes pretty much since the 1st day. I thought it was just a "break in" period.
but like I said earlier it went flawless....
I shot Winchester 150 gr hp's then a mil surplus 168 gr.
But I'm still open to suggestions.

I run my fairly wet... has never jammed.
However... I did some fairly rapid firing at camp one day and the Hornady brass ejected with two parallel shears the width of the feeds at 1/8th of an inch above the bases.
These were the last 4 rounds fired...
Soft Brass? Sharp Feed ramps? Or did I just run cook the cheap ass lube off?

Not ejecting a spent case sounds like an extractor issue to me. DPMS had a bad run of them awhile ago.

Alright I've been shooting since I was a toddler but not any in depth learning on the inner workings of firearms....so I'm gonna ask a lot of questions....
What exactly should I look for on the extractor?
How can I make the trigger more smooth/crisp w/o buying a drop in?

Providing a link because I'm not quite sure how to post a picture. Here's an image at MidwayUSA of the extractor. Check for the small rim on the inside that grabs the case rim. In this picture it is on the right hand bottom edge.

I'm not sure if I understand the problem correctly from the decription given. When my DPMS LR 308 had the lip on the extractor break (after less than 500 rounds), it completely failed to remove the case from the chamber. Of course once the lip sheared off, the failure to extract occurred every time the weapon was fired.
What your problem sounds like is the case is being fully extracted from the chamber, but then it is not being ejected from the action. Is that right?
If that is the case, I would think that the ejector might be the problem instead of the extractor. If the ejector is not kicking the spent case out of the way, it would cause something like what you've decribed.

Good to hear you're running without malfs. The 308 platform runs dry quicker then the 5.56 in my experience. Either way I try to keep them wet so carbon "wipes off" as oppossed to having to "scrape it off". Running wet is a must for ARs.
