Finally got in my barrel from Storm Lake yesterday. I decided I would throw down with some pictures, info, and range report. First, Gun Porn...

Now that that is all out of the way, here is my impromptu report on the barrel itself. When I got it out of the package it was ready to go, basically wrapped in some heavy duty foam. Quality is what you would come to expect from Storm Lake and like predicted it dropped right in as most of the information I was able to gather led me to believe. The barrel looks almost exactly like the stock except for 3 factors. Obviously the first is the extended length at 4.95in with threads and thread protector. This was as ordered.

One feature I noticed when I looked down the barrel before installing it is that although the twist rate is the same, the stock twist is a right hand, and SL uses a left hand twist.

Range Report:
Ok so I don't have pictures up yet of groups but I brought both barrels to the range this morning and noticed not only did it hold slightly higher at 25yds and in (id imagine barrel length), but the groups were noticeably tighter.

more pics to come...

I can not recall reading anywhere that the Storm Lake barrel increased accuracy so I backed away from buying one. Keep us informed on the accuracy of the new barrel.

Re: Storm Lake M&P Barrel (Pics)

I have had great luck with storm lake barrels, threading is always as it should be, accuracy has never slipped and is usually a bit better (mostly replacing stock 1911 barrels.)

It was definitely something I noticed first hand. M&P's are usually pretty accurate pistols in the base case but it just shot tighter than the stock one.

What size groups at what distance were you getting with the stock barrel and what are they now?

Well, I did 5 groups of 5 with each barrel. At the 10yd line I was about a 2in circle on average with the storm lake barrel, and with stock it was an average of a 2.5 group.

It was slight, and im sure some of it could be attributed to the longer barrel length, but like I said it was noticeable.

Re: Storm Lake M&P Barrel (Pics)

I was told that storm lake barrels were all stainless steel? Even when I asked a rep about it he said they all come SS. That's the only reason I didn't get one. Did you get yours specially done?

Re: Storm Lake M&P Barrel (Pics)

I think that this is the same barrel included with M&P's that come from the factory with threaded barrels. Only problem is that they dont come with sights for suppressor use.

If you don't mind, on your next trip to the range, could you back it up to 20yds and try again? That would really show a difference between the two, if there is one.

I'll be out there tomorrow and be sure to do that.

Any info on this?

And you searched this from where, a piece of paper and your desk? Seriously? I have had great gains from Storm Lake but always will go to KKM since the groups with their barrels have been solid. The Storm Lake is great also though.

How else would I read information? I made my statement based on following discussions since the M&P was introduced as well as the Storm Lake barrels. And as you can see in the end of my statement, I am always open to new information. Seriously.

Well that's great. I'm glad you thought storm lake was great, but that kkm is even greater. Would've really been great if you could quantify your great opinions with some great numbers on the great groups that you must've shot with both of these great barrels.
