i'm looking for a 500 yard prairie dog scope to sit on top of my heavy barreled A R 204

i'm gonna have to take off my nighforce 3-15 ffp because the complete rig is too heavy to carry around

now i'm researching a variable swarovski in 10 to 12 power for about a thousand bucks

so the need is light weight and accuracy to the 204's outer limits

Re: any swarovski owners?

I have a 3.5-18x44 with the ballistic turret and love it, sits atop my Sako AII in .220 Swift.

I have it zeroed at 100m and a quick turn gets me spot on at 2,3 and 400m.

Re: any swarovski owners?

The Z3 is a nice scope. I had an American 4x12 with the TDS ret. It worked well. The night force weighs 30 oz and you will only save around a pound.

Re: any swarovski owners?

Losing a pound in a scope change alone is huge.

A Z3 4-12x50 weighs 14oz

Re: any swarovski owners?

I use a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44mm for exactly the same weight reasons. I expect the Swarovski is probably clearer but the Zeiss has a side focus parallax adjust and a little more power for those tiny dogs. I think that it is worth the extra 2.6 oz. I have a hard time buying any scope that does not have a parallax adjustment. The Zeiss is even a little cheaper than the Swarovski. Hard to beat that Zeiss for a light weight varmint rig.

Re: any swarovski owners?

My Z6I 1x6 is spectacular but sounds like the 1.7x10x42 would serve you well.
There are some deals out there now as some of the models are changing reticles.
I found an awesome deal on mine from SWFA Samplelist.
YMMV

Re: any swarovski owners?

I have a Swarovski on a SAKO varmint stainless laminate .204

Re: any swarovski owners?

If you are going to throw a bt model I highly recommend the 4w reticle. I shoot a 5-25 myself on my varmint rigs but the z3 4-12 would be a great fit for what you are looking for. Either the brx reticle or the bt system would be what I recommend.
