Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Has anyone else noticed how the recent availability of firearms has become scarce? Major manufacturers like S&W, Marlin, Thompson Center, and Remington are slowing down to the point that they are on a 3 month back log for product demand. Items like a S&W M&P 45 or Marlin 1895 have become so scarce that it's almost impossible to find them. Sure, there may be 2 or 3 at your local dealer, but can he order more if those are sold? Most distributors are reporting a 3 to 6 month backlog on order requests from ALL major firearms manufacturers.

Does anyone else see a pattern forming here? Is the firearms industry banding together in order to create a higher demand, and, in turn, raise prices on firearms?

Call me an alarmist if you want, but I follow these signs when I see them appear. A recent conversation with S&W led me to this grim reality. Some major manufacturers are holding back on production for "unknown" reasons. For instance, the S&W M&P Pro 9mm pistols have been out of production for close to 7 months now with no projected date for more being produced.

They are getting use with the "Frog in the pot" method of price raising. In other words, they are getting us for $10 to $20 a month instead of hitting us with a $75 raise. I also have this documented through several online firearms dealers. Bud's Guns being one of them.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Many major US firearm manufactures are now owned by hedge funds or the like cos. Cerebus comes to mind and now Nardellie is running Remington I Believe. Most major Black gun makers are under conglomerate control.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

are manufacturers slowing down? maybe. or could it be that demand is growing and the factories can't keep up to demand. i believe the latter. p.s. prices always go up at shot show.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

No shortage here in sunny Tampa! Central Firearms, SRT (St. Pete), Shoot Straight, all have plenty of inventory.

Can't speak to suspicions of dark motivations but I do have difficulty in understanding the idea of a positive return on investment that can be accrued by halting the production and delivery of the products one's company manufactures.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

I'm sure they're not "holding back" production...management isn't stupid and you can damn sure bet they're going to profit handsomely from panic buying leading up to November's election.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

and how do you explain Ruger's big push to sell 1.2 million firearms in one year....and donate 1.2million bucks to NRA while they are at it?

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Ruger may be an exception to the rule. I've always respected Ruger since they haven't 'sold out' to the big umbrella corporations. Ruger and Mossberg are the only family owned companies anymore. Everyone else has gone to the 3 headed dog a.k.a. Cerberus.

Here are the major firearms manufacturers currently held by Cerberus:

Remington
S&W
H&R 1871 (All but closed)
Thompson Center
Marlin
Browning
Winchester
Bushmaster
DPMS
Dakota Arms
Kimber
Springfield Armory
Les Baer
STI
Wilson Combat

Seeing a pattern here?

Am I missing any?

I have also heard that ATK plans to sell their CCI and Federal ammo brands to Cerberus by the end of 2013. Cerberus ALREADY OWNS Remington & Winchester Ammo!

Also, a noteworthy fact. Cerberus received BILLIONS in Federal Bail-Out money.

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but I only deal in Conspiracy FACT!

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Savage Arms isn't family-owned, but it is privately-owned...

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Sorry, I forgot Savage as a hold out.

Also forgot to add ....

Hornady and RCBS are ALSO owned by none other than ... Cerberus!

Dillon, Lee, and Redding are the only non-Cerberus companies.

Needless to say ... any idiot with half a brain can see a pattern here. If Cerberus went bankrupt it wouldn't take long for firearms companies across the US to shut their doors.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Wait? Wouldn't they get a bail out?

hahahahah

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

well

I think the drug lord demand and purchases south of the border are taxing their ability to keep up production with demand.

it's a back door way the current administration is trying to control the number of guns in the US......

it's a conspiracy i tell you

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

I was in Cabelas a couple of weeks ago and noticed that the used-guns racks are almost empty. I think we are seeing record levels of gun purchases.

That could be, but at the same time why are we seeing a 7 month back log on certain firearms? I could understand if it was a niche market rifle or pistol, but I'm talking about a run of the mill pistol.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

The handful of shops near me seem to have plenty in stock. One also claims that he can pretty much order me whatever he doesn't have in store.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Do you have some information stating that STI and Wilson Combat are owned by Cerebus??????

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

I would agree there is a problem with supply. Try to go on a website like Midway or Brownells and buy all the components to build an AR. It's not happening, limited bolt carrier, upper receivers, handguards, everything is in very limited supply. My last build was aquired from 3 suppliers, costing me 3 times the shipping.

You're telling me!

Not to mention that their #4 man is Dan Quayle. Remember him? This company is fishy as hell. For those of you who don't remember him .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Quayle

Talking about political ties! Comeon ...don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

I think somebody might be setting up for a massive end-around. Wake me up when they acquire ATK.

Demand seems to outstrip supply for a large number of components and complete firearms. But what is the incentive for manufacturers to spend a lot of money investing in new physical capital? Money is difficult and expensive to borrow for small businesses, which tends to present a strong disincentive to grow. The result of more production is a drop in prices and thus a decrease in per-unit margin, which is a poor reward for taking on additional debt. And tomorrow's demand may well indeed be less than today's demand, which would result in yet another hit to margins.

Chasing after temporary spikes in demand is a dangerous game.
I highly suspect most firearms manufacturers are content to sit back and enjoy the higher margins that come with the present situation. After seeing what happened to the automotive industry in the previous 15 years, who can blame them?

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

Or Les Baer...or frankly anyone else not associated with the "Freedom Group":

I don't think any of us really intend to be caught snoozing by developments.

Yes, but the Freedom Group is only 1 subsidiary of Cerberus. Look deeper!

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

The NICS data indicate a significant spike in requests for approval of firearm purchases..that is part of the demand. Also the present climate and threats to Second Ammendment some see coming down the pike.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

If the big companies cannot keep up with demand, or reduce supply, that helps new, smaller companies expand.

Look at Seekins, they are making some great AR's. I can see their sales taking off, which would be good for everyone.

WTF??? Shitty info bro. Winchester and Browning are owned by FN, and Ruger is not a family owned company, its a PUBLIC company traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Yahoo Finance: Ruger Stock

And Cerberus didn't get billions in Federal bail out money, Chrysler and GM did, which Cerberus owned a sizable stake in. For a guy that deals only in facts your lacking alot of them.

Re: Firearms Price Rise On The Way !

I too have noticed. I called Barrett as I am waiting for a weapon from them and they told me that a a few manufactures ( Remington, McMillan, etc) were going for the new PSR prodgram for the government. And that all manufacturing was put on the back burner. I now that this may not be the only reason but may be a contributing factor.

Barrett is family owned as well....don't forget Redjacket. Lol
