Cody, rifle barrels are not interchangeable.

You may not simply unscrew the 270 barrel off one Winchester (or Remington, or Weatherby or......) and screw it onto another receiver. In many cases it will be close, and will probably fire - but it is NOT safe to do until headspace has been checked (and usually adjusted).

Savage rifles are the primary exception here, but there are other "switch barrel" rifles out there.

You'll need to buy a .277" bore barrel, and have a gunsmith chamber/fit it to your action.

Find a good smith and have him help you. Is your rifle not shooting well or do you have some other reason for wanting a new barrel?

Re: ? about winchester

Thanks guys, Im sorry for asking that question. I had searched for the answer on here, but didnt find anything. Then after I asked the question I looked on google and it came up on another site saying a smith would have to do it. As far as the grouping I dont own a 270wsm but I found one the other day at a pawn shop, so I was just keeping my options open. For about 2-3 years I have wanted a 270wsm but couldnt find what I was looking for. Over the last week or so Ive decided to go with a 7 mag since the balistics are real close, and Ive noticed there seems to be more options as far as ammo for the 7 mag. I would have like to stayed with a modle 700 but after reading about having to take it to a smith for a rebarrel and seeing about how much that cost, I cant go that route. So my plan is to buy a Savage 110 action in a 7mag and have fun with it while I build. I figure the money I would spend on a smith could buy a stock, bbl, or some glass. Now I just have to look around for a good deal on a used savage.
