This comes up from time to time around here. I have spent some time now working with both systems and felt comfortable giving a little comparison.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Looks like it is worth checking out. I seem to have a problem with fighting with my rear bag between shots(settling after recoil) sometimes and this looks like it might help with that. Although, it is more likely something I am doing wrong with the bag... The monopod reminds me of holding on to the sling swivel on the old M40A1 rifles.

Good video. I'm used to my Barretts static up/down and just got the Accu Shot and wouldn't have thought about the angle adjustment using the hand. Thanks

So... What did the group look like

Thank you for doing the video.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Enjoyed the video, as well as mailcall Monday. Keep up the great work.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

The angle adjustment used with the hand is something I never thought of. Great video sir.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

I never thought of using my fist to elevate/ lower the rifle while using the monopod.. brilliant.

Thank you for posting this

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Great video, its always nice to learn something new. I too would have never thought of doing that, its amazing how many people overlook the simplest of things.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

John,

I know it sounds simple, but I wish you had time to go over the use and benefits of the bags a little more. I get more questions about how to use a bag than I ever imagined...

If somebody is considering an Accushot Monopod, be SURE to look at adding the Quick Knob feature. It makes changing the length of the pod much, much faster.

Its the little button that allows you to quickly change the elevation without having to spin the pod around on the threads. Its magic really.....

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Steve I will work on a bag video soon.

I also second the Quick Knob suggestion. It's just so easy to set the length you need with the button, but still have the "fine tune" by turning the knob.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Very nice. I was using a cam to do the same thing with a more standard stock, but for the AICS stock with the cutout it was too awkward. The monopod fits in there perfectly. Good to see that it can be used in that way.

It's pretty much the exact same principal.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Thanks, John. Great video as always.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Great video thanks for taking the time to make it!

I've had my Accu-shot for a little over a year and I've used the unlocked-canted method in you video a few times, but typically use the pod fully locked in with my hand wrapped around the pod with thumb resting on the quick adjust button. I feel both techniques are comparable and the principle of the pod being an extension of your hand is the same. In my situation the pod is on a PRS stock with a 9-13" bi-pod which requires a touch more pod height than your AICS close to the deck. As they say there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Wow.
Thank you for posting this.
I'm a very new guy and stuff like this really explains to me how all these "gadgets" are properly used.

Keep posting them and I will keep learning.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Thanks john, keep up the great work!

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Great video. What camera track are you using for your sliding shots?

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Thanks for the video. I also wouldn't have thought of using the monopod like that.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Looks good to me. I never thought to use it like that either. Now if I can turn my old CTK that I never use into an Accu-shot I'm in there.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Great video, John thanks for taking the time. Was curious how the monopod attaches to the stock. I have an AICS stock and there is a hole there but doesn't look like it's threaded for any type of attachment.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

great video thank you for posting...I gained some great points from this..keep them coming

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Nice video, thanks for posting it. That is the first time I have seen anyone actually show how to use a monopod.

On an unrelated note what kind of watch was that?

The Accu-Shot includes a longer screw for the bottom of the buttpad. You just remove the factory screw, position the Accu-Shot and screw it on. Simple as can be. It even includes a little rubber pad that fits between the Accu-Shot and the skins.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Good video, great info. On a side note, have you considered adding some 8541 Tactical t-shirts to your website? I don't care much for hats, but I'm a t shirt whore.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Can the monopod attach directly to a sling stud on the bottom of the butt stock on any regular rifle stock? Or will it only fit AICS?

Working on it.

Subscribed to your Youtube page. You've got some GREAT info there. Im going to spend alot of time on your page.
Thanks!

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Perfect! Count me in when they are in stock.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Excellent video...

I tried this technique about a year ago after chatting with Kasey. I used the BT04-QK (Pictured above) and noticed quite a bit of side to side wobble. Now that I'm using an AICS, I'm going to give the BT08-QK a try since it looks like there would be less wobble.

When watching the video, I noticed that the rifle tended to recoil back and down. Did this result in a higher point of impact? Watching Jacob in the "Straight Back Behind the Rifle Video" you can see how the rifle goes straight back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8rkt1HRWdo

Can't wait for your next video on using a bag.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

need some recommendation(s) please gents.

I've got a Bell & Carlson A5 Medalist.....i need a stud mounting system; however, I see that the base that attaches to the stock is angled upward at like a 20 degree angle to fit your standard stock. Does the monopod lock at different intervals or only at 90 degrees???

Im afraid that if I buy this w/o some more info, it won't work properly. The underside of the B&C Medalist A5 is flat.

Finally, what length locking elevation range (3.75 - 4.85 or 4.80 - 5.85) does everybody recommend for a Harris 6-9 AS WELL as an Atlas which I'll be purchasing in the near future.

Thanks to all.....

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Yup...I love the monopod...and will try this technique next time I'm out. Dragging a bag into the field is a no-go...monopod is GOOD-TO-GO!

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Anybody ????

Okay, third question.....If the sling stud mounting system won't work, can anybody recommend a SOLID stud to picatinny rail adapter so I can buy Accu-Shot's PRM rail mount system?

I'm not a high-speed, low-drag operator. However, this method really makes a huge difference. If you have a panning feature on you bipod, you can change elevation, cant, and pan the rifle with your hand on the monopod.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

Excellent video and explanation of the rear monopod. I've always shot with a bag but your demonstration of the hand/monopod technique might sway me.

Blackhawk makes one, and i use it with my atlas bipod, works great.

Re: Monopod Versus Rear Bag Video (Accu-Shot Monopod)

I had a Accu-shot's 3.35 inch 1913 Rail installed to mount the Accu-Shot PRM - Precision Rail Monopod with standard Quick Knob.
