After 4 months of emails, phone calls, admin, waiting and transport - my new AICS AX 1.5 (fixed stock) has landed.

20 minutes of fury later, like an IKEA desk it's bolted down and ready to go.

The machining quality seems perfect, exact and smooth. I've had two AICS stocks in the past and this one has definitely not gone backwards in quality - as to be expected from such a company.

It came packaged in two bits, the fore end rail system and the rear stock section. Bolt the barrel and action down to the rear half then slide the fore end rail over. 10 fastening screws connect the two - rock solid, the threads were TIGHT so you have to be careful and smooth.

I jacked both wrists doing Army related things, the ergonomics of the awesome McMillan A5 I've been running the last almost 3 years was getting to me so switched it out for the pistol grip.

It cost a small fortune but I'm very happy so far!

Looking forward to hitting the hills, will keep you posted lads.

A little while back I met up with Tom Irwin and checked out the AX chassis at their state-side shop, I was very impressed. I might even consider swapping out my current AICS for an AX but think I'll hold off for another build.

The AX is a sweet piece of kit.

Great looking set up and looks like your ST10 is holding up well too!

Nice rifle mate. Is that a 20" bbl? Also, is the LOP system still spacers or does that 'button' (not sure if it is one) on the side depress and enable you to extend the guts out?

They're a big problem in some parts of Australia, I live down south and they're all over the rural areas... You can only shoot them with a permit though, they're a protected species like most other animals here.

Thanks bud, it's a Remington 20" varmint barrel still, just had the FTE fitted to the front and re-crowned. Had about 1500 rounds through it, still going strong. Will rebarrel next year to something bigger, probably an MTU fluted 24".
LOP is still done with spacers, it comes with one thick and one slim spacer with 3 sets of bolts for Big+Small / Big only / Small only / No spacer - which is a nice touch. There seems to be the possibility for the LOP button however it's not fitted.
Maybe it's a factory addition? Same for the butt spike, it seems ready but it's just not fitted.

No worries mate, I'll try and get out early next week... Work is kicking my arse at the moment!

The short actions all have the 13" fore end, measured it to confirm. It's still quite long, 16" would be huge.

Thanks fellas, have a good afternoon. I'll get some pics out from the first shoot and throw them up.

Re: Finally.... The AICS AX has landed in Aus.

The butt spike & quick adjust butt are available as upgrade kits so can be added to your base chassis at any time you wish.

What rail are you using on that 700 action? Seems to cover up the "gap" well.

If possible could you post a pic of just that part of the rifle?

    Nice set up!

Re: Finally.... The AICS AX has landed in Aus.

I'll get onto that for you after work mate,

    It's a Nightforce NXS 20 MOA rail.
    Leupold MK4 high 30mm rings.
ST10 with front end ergo adjustment.

There's about 1mm gap with the flip covers on, works well.
