MWS Optics Mount Options?

I have a SN3 ERGO inbound for my MWS 260. Cannot decide which way to go with a mount: traditional rings or a QD type mount. The tube is 35mm so my options are somewhat reduced. Larue does make a SPR mount in 35mm.

Suggestions or Pro's v Con's of each?

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

I have a Nightforce Unimount for my 5.5-22x50 Optic. I believe the height on it is 1.375" and it just clears the top rail. It's not QB per se, but if you keep a torque wrench handy with the right bit, you can literally take it off and put it back on in a matter of seconds. Mine has returned really close to zero the couple of times I have taken it off with a minimal shift of an inch or so.

It is the amount of cant the base has on it. It allows you to utilize more of your elevation on your scope. My unimount has a 20 MOA cant to it. An extra 20 MOA for shooting distance is a good thing.

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

I went with the USO rings for my MWS with USO scope. I decided that the MWS was going to be a dedicated long range rifle. I will say one thing about the USO rings, they are built like a tank, they are solid as can be, but the windage adjustment option is not the best way to go.

If you do not have the windage exactly the same on each side, it can cause an issue with the scope as far as putting an uneven force side to side. I found this out when I first installed and went the first snug up on the ring halves, the TPAL knob had some resistance to turn.

Took everything apart again, measured the screw threads with a pitch gauge, measured the turns to bottom out on each side, numbered the screws and then made the side to side even based on turns...

After doing all of this, torqued them down and then went with a Wheeler Engineering lapping system...

All is fine now....sorry for being long winded

Now if I had to do it over again, would look at Seekins, Badger or even some real sturdy Barrett rings I just saw.

Multiple QD mounts, 35mm, and even 20MOA.
I like QD, since I run BUIS.

NF Unimount is nice too, got one on a bolt gun..

I gave up on Larue, I don't like the way their mounts grab the rail. It works well, but will wear the rail over time. </div></div>

They do have some nice mounts. I am considering the AD-Recon 20moa. With a height of 1.57" it should clear my SN3 58mm. Only 2 things worry me: the distance between the rings to clear the EREK knob and the windage style rings. whats the fascination with these type rings. seems like most are going to them so they must offe some advantage over traditional configuration where they come together along a horizontal plane versus a vertical.

I was worred too so I put my SN3 ERGO in an AD RECON-SW and it cleared everything fine.
Don't know if the 35mm is much different ~ mine is
30mm.
Mine is on a MA TEN 308.
I saw somewhere that Bobro has one expecially made for these high powered scopes but you have to call them as it is not on the menu.
YMMV

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

I just mounted a badger 22moa riser (.430") to mine along with some badger 1" rings to give me 1.430" overall and I can still mount the scope to my bolt gun with the 1" rings. I liked this option the best so I didn't have to swap rings if I needed to switch rifles.

AD Recon...and yes they do 35mm

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

I used the US Optics titanium rings. Had some, not running buis, works well with the SN-3s. Just enough to clear the objective. Ring height was 0.985.

you aint kidding! Also looks like the 44mm (?) objective, I think. The one I have coming is 58mm. Those ti rings are sexy!

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

Guys, it's the 37mm objective. The rings are low, but think about this, it's a 10x scope with the EREK feature, still has a very low profile. Keeps it super compact. USO's can look a little long, but not much is sticking up in the breeze. The low rings work well for me in the prone with the SOPMOD, I'm looking directly at the center of the exit.
Also, my line of sight is very close to the bore axis.
The titanium rings are great. That set has been on 3 diff. rifles, still tight, grip well, haven't deformed at all.
This is the only scope I'm going to leave on the rifle, had the rings on hand. That's why no QD mount.
I'm going to run some sort of red dot, still kind of looking, maybe a small J-Point.

Re: MWS Optics Mount Options?

I've got a NF 3.5-15 in a Larue LT104 on my MWS. it works well, but if you're not looking to be removing and reinstalling optics I would just buy some quality rings.

I already had the LT104 or I would have bought rings. Besides, with a monolithic upper you don't need a cantilever mount.
