My buddy gave me 20 rounds of .308 to try in my Savage 10FP and I was a little nervous being that it was near max load and consisted of 175 SMK, Nosler brass, CCI BR primer, and 44 grain's of IMR 4064. This is his pet load for his AR 30 bolt gun w/26" barrel and muzzle brake, and shoots 1/2" or less at a 100 yards.
He wanted me to try them because he accidently seated 100 rounds too deep at an average of 2.782. His normal coal is around 2.9 ish cause his rifle has a long throat were my Savage dosn't. Any how I bit the bullet and gave them a try and amazingly my rifle shot all of them into a 1 inch group at 200 yards! Absolutly no pressure signs either.
But back to my main question I have 8 pounds of Varget and was wondering if any of you could give me an idea of how much Varget would equal 44 grains of IMR 4064. In the back of my head I'm thinking probably around 45-45.5 grains would be close. I have shot the 175 SMK, Win case, Fed 210M primer with 43.2 of Varget with no problems at all.
Please let me know what you guys have found on these 2 powders.
