The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

^^ Bugman made a nice tutorial thread http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=969694

You just need some painters tape, Kylon fusion camo paint and imagination.

My stock was black so I only had to do 2 coats, the OD green then the khaki/tan.

I did some touch ups, just remember to overlap the last color over the first two to tie them in, if the colors dont overlap it looks weird.

If I get bored with it, I might try the Manners camo with sponges, looks real nice http://mannersstocks.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mcs-tf1.jpg

Thanks, that helps a lot. Did you start with just the plain black textured B & C?

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I have two "budget" builds. One's a .338 EDGE on a Rem M700 LA, the other's a Pierce short action in 7mm WSM. Things get a lot less expensive when you do your own work.

16k6txl.jpg

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">.338 Edge</span></span> (foreground)
$350 Remington 700 LA in 270 WIN
$125 PTG bolt/handle for mag bolt face
$70 for a factory stainless .338 Ultra rechambered to EDGE
$125 Murphy 20moa scope base
$0 made my own muzzle brake
----------------------------
$670 total.

If the rules could be bent to allow aftermarket actions:

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">7mm WSM</span></span> (background)
$800 Pierce SA receiver with mag bolt face
$175 Jewell trigger
$60 for a factory 7mm Mag barrel rechambered to 7WSM
$300 bottom metal + magazine
$120 unfinished stock inletted and bedded myself.
$30 flush cups/swivels
$15 muzzle brake
$0 made my own scope base from 416 stainless.
----------------------------
$1500 total.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

$250 Stevens 200 SA
$140 ER Shaw 308 "tactical" barrel
$125 B&C Duramaxx stock
$100 Gemtech Vortex style suppressor mount
$35 stock pack
----------------
$650

With Burris bases and rings and the 10x42 SS it was about a grand.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

gander mtn had a sale in '08 marked down to 299.00

they also had a $50.00 off promotion on ANY rifle in the store - mislabeled, it should have been 50.00 of any non clearance rifles. out of good faith i asked the guy behind the counter twice if it was actually ANY rifle, he said yes. once he rang me up, he noticed his error, and the sign's.

he took the additional 50.00 off, i could not leave the store without the rifle. he even commented on how good a deal i got.

like tom petty said "even the losers get lucky sometimes"
wink.gif

every now and then i do see them for 279.00 when they want to reduce inventory - you just have to keep your eye out for the deals.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I agree with one of the views, most of these pictured aren't what I caall a budget rifle. these things are sweet. Mine is a old Savage 10FP that I picked up at a pawn shop for $350.

Again, Used pre Accutrigger Savage 10Fp from a pawn Shop $350
Cheapo Bipod with nobs (came on the rifle)
Cheap ass Leapers 4-16x50 (came on the rifle)

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Its funny cause everyone calls these "budget builds" but i still call them expensive</div></div>

You mean like this:

I paid $235 for "6" model 70 Winchester action, so the action is
$40 bucks.

Stock is a Bishops partly inleted, $68

Barrel = douglas premium $80 (late 70s).

Sights were Model 52 Redfield Olympic (given to me). The scope, Weaver T-10,for Any Rifle/Any Sight I had on hand (and still use)

The NG paid for the reamer and HS gages since I was building 1000 yard rifles for them.

The hand stop was GS find, $35. I made the rail.

So total price was less then $235 ( I did the labor).

Shot some dern good 1000 yards scores with this puppy. You can have a budget target rifle.

...and this after I put the Duracoat on it.

2011-12-19_15-33-38_995.jpg

I think I have somewhere around $1k into it...I installed a Timney 510 on sale for $119 shipped form Midway a while back, then sold the X-Mark Pro for $40.

That has been a recurring theme for the rifle, I wait until I can find stuff on sale, and do it myself.

This was the first rifle I have bedded, and it turned out nice.

It is now my Antelope and Deer rifle, with an emphasis on Coyotes. lol

Nice rifle. I bet that thing shoots! I really like the 6br. Wish I knew about it many years ago.

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

I see a lot of savage rifles in here. Did you guys pick this platform because of the ease of re-barreling? That is why I chose mine. Although it has been a pain finding a stock that will work lol. Anyone making cheap bottom metal for a LA?

Re: The BUDGET RIFLE picture thread!

The tan one is a 223 Varmint ($500) with Badger knob, B&C stock, Wyatt DBM, Viper PST scope on an EGW base with Mark 4 rings ... all for under $2000 total. The black one is a Sendero II in 300 Win Mag (used for $600 ... unfired), Badger knob, B&C stock, Wyatt DBM, Viper PST, Nightforce base, Valdada rings, Little Bastard brake ... under $2500 (barrel threading and brake added cost). Both shoot better than I do! Going to get the 300 CeraKoted next (add $200 or so)

I'm a new member ( this is my first post) and after reading this thread I couldnt think of a better place to make my debut.
The rifle is a bone stock FN PBR in .308 with Badger M40A3 rings, a Versa Pod, Turner Sadlery NM sling, and Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10X40 FFP TMR.
