i'm looking for advice on good 1-6x optics for an AR-15. I'd LIKE something that works well in 1x as a true 1x for quick acquisition, along with having decent range with the magnification.

I currently am running a Trijicon Accupoint, but I find I have trouble with it since it tends to distort the image even at 1x, no matter how I adjust it.

I don't have a huge pile to spend on something, but I'd like to not have to run a red dot and a distance optic if I can avoid it.

Any thoughts?

Stick with a 1-4. In the ranges you'll use a rifle that you must have 1x on, the 1-6x and 1-8x scopes aren't worth the money. There are some great 1-4s under $500.

I'm trying to stick to up to $750, no more. I am also curious as to what the difference is between first focal plane, etc.

So far, I'm looking at the SWFA 1-4x, the Vortex, and the Firefield 1-6x First Focal Plane.

Something doesn't sound right with your current Accupoint. They have great glass and shouldn't be distorted at all. I know my 1-4 doesn't distort, nor have I heard of an Accupoint that does.

Re: Mid-range 1-6x optic for an AR?

I figured out my problem with the accupoint. I was trying to find a happy medium with the rear lens adjustment to try and not have any magnification at 1x for faster acquisition, but what I was looking for and what I got are two different things.

I think, generally, I want something like the TR24, but without the deltapoint reticle, and an actual BDC reticle.

If i can stick to under $1k, I'd be happy.

I had a TR24 switched to the Burris MTAC 1-4, Illuminated reticle, BDC, true one power. Much happier with this optic and its cheaper than the Trijicon

I'm somewhat of a mid range scope fetishest (I'd buy top of the line scopes if I could afford them too), and I have a good amount of experience with $600-$2300 scopes from various manufacturers. For your application, I'd go after the SS 1-4x in a heartbeat. There isn't a downside to it that I can find.

Re: Mid-range 1-6x optic for an AR?

I'm wondering if some of you are confusing the TR21 with the TR24? The TR21 is a 1.25 - 4 and the TR24 is a true 1-4. My TR24 does NOT distort the sight picture at 1x, but my old TR21 did...since it wasn't a true 1X.

The German #4 reticle in the TR 24 is WAY better for precise work than the triangles and chevrons.

A Horus-style reticle in a TR24 would be wonderful...

I'm interested in the Leupy Mark 6 1-6 CMR-W 7.62 reticle. I played with them at SHOT, and they are nice. Expecially the daylight visible illuminated reticle. The SS1-6 is the other one that I'm waiting to see.
