I installed a Magpul adjustable stock on my AR platform rifle. It does not completly cycle and eject the spent cartriges. In inspecting, the charging handle does not hit the cheekpad, but it does not seem to be going back the whole way, thus not pulling back the spent shell all the way to eject. Is there a different model number between .223 and .308? Thank you.

I know some are universal between the two. Did you change the buffer tube or anything else along with the stock or just the stock. You might want to try different mag as well. There is no reason changing just a stock would effect the operation.

According to Brownell's, PRS for AR-15 part number is MAG307BLK and .308 part number is MAG308BLK.

You may have mis-matched between commercial and mil-spec components.

The tubes are supposed to be the same. Different buffers though!!

Re: DPMS . Different buttstock for 308 and 223

Make sure you are using a carbine buffer and not a rifle length buffer, also I believe the springs are different also.

Dpms 308 carbine buffers are shorter than standard ar-15 carbine buffers. This might be your problem. I replaced a fixed stock Dpms rifle with a vltor adjustable. I had to get a 308 carbine buffer and spring. Mine works flawlessly.

Kind regards,
Jared

Excellent guys. Thanks. I will try it out tomorrow. Does the spring bottom out and bind?

Re: DPMS . Different buttstock for 308 and 223

I removed the original A2 stock. I also need to get a lighter buffer tube spring. Mine is a ton stiffer than my cousins Sr25. Best deals on springs?

I will snap some pics tomorrow. It appears that the adjustable cheek rest does not interfere, but it's close. I'll look at the mounting screw. Thank you.

From what the OP has described, I think this is the problem. You have to use the mounting screw provided with the PRS. The original screw from the A2 stock is too long.

i had the same problem when i used my 5.56 buffer and spring on my 7.62

Re: DPMS . Different buttstock for 308 and 223

The cheekrest does not affect the rifle cycling. It only interferes with the charging handle. Make sure the screw is the correct vented item, and that you installed the spacer between the buffer tube and the PRS. If the spacer is missing, the screw will protrude into the buffer tube also.
