A buddy and I spent the day at Thunder Valley Precision demoing supressors with Tom Sarver. I'd like to thank Tom for spending the time with us and answering countless questions. We had a great time and my buddy left a little bit lighter in the pocket. I did not make a purchase this trip but hope to in the near future. This was my first trip to Thunder Valley but will not be my last.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

Jessie's buddy here.

I am a complete supressor newbie.

I have been considering a supressor for a long time and I was interested in something I could run on My 7.62 Larue obr and also on my 5.56 ar15s.

I met Tom at one of the mammoth sniper challenges and have been ding donging him with supressor questions ever since.

Last Monday Jessie and I finally drove the 3.5 hours up to Thunder Valley to see Tom Sarver and try out one of the titanium shark .308 cans. I wanted to try one out on my .308, one of my.223s and a .223 with a .22 kit in it.

I also wanted to shoot a few groups through the can to examine its effect on accuracy.

Now to tell the truth that is probably taking advantage of the "demo" that Tom offered me, but I was also getting ready to drop what is to me a very substantial pile of money and Tom was super about letting us try his cans out.

He screwed one shark onto my Obr and another onto one of my .223 ar15s and let us go over to his 1000 yard + range and shoot our groups and generally giggle like little girls while playiing with nearly $3000 of his inventory.

The cans were extremely lightweight and had little noticable effect on the handling of the rifles and were extremely quiet. Accuracy was every bit as good with the can on as it was with it off and the recoil impulse was cut drastically.

The weather was horrible with high winds and snow out on his range. Snow kept filling the eyepieces of my optics so we didnt spend as long shooting as we would have liked. But we did have a great time and learned alot about the supressors while we were at it.

When we finally came inside, Tom sat and answered all of our questions with the patience of a saint and let us play with a few more of his toys while we talked.

Tom made the whole supressor buying ordeal as painless as I could ask for. He supplied a NFA attourney to set up a trust for me and will let me use my can anytime that I would like up at his range while I wait for my form 4 to come back. This should make the wait a lot more bearable.

The only bad part is the fact that I already want to buy one of his Silencerco Sparrows that he showed us for my .22s!

Bottom line, if you are thinking of getting a supressor and you want to deal with a good guy who knows his stuff give Tom a try at Thunder Valley Precision.

Many Thanks
Rusty

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

We were talking about this today. It's a great place to buy your can since you can still use it until your paperwork gets back as long as Tom is there. Unless something has changed, he also offers rentals if anyone would like to try one during a match or just don't want to invest that much money in ownership yet.

I thought it was $100 members/$150 for non-members, but I could be mistaken.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

Yeah, The fee was $150. $100 for the trust and $50 to make me a member.

Also just heard from the attourney Steve Michniak, He has everything rolling on his end and has been great to deal with just like Tom.

I asked If I got a hat with the membership, but he didnt have any. Turns out all I got for my $50 was acess to a world class 1700+ yard range and the ability to use my supressor while I wait lol!

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

This is awesome news! I have the ca$h for a suppressor right now and am just waiting to hear back on a job opportunity in OH before I buy so I know where I'll be living in the next couple of months. If I end up in OH, I'll definitely be heading out to TVP.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

I love going to thunder valley. It truly is an awesome range. I love when people at matches have suppressors, they're awesome.

I cannot wait until I am able to buy a can. (many years from now unfortunately)

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

Update, Tom has sent in the form 4. That was 11 days from me going and trying it out to having the trust finished and the forms sent out.

Thanks again Tom.

Now the wait begins...........

Oh and for kicks, here is a short video of Jessie and I shooting the shark can on my 16" carbine with a ciener kit in it.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision

Congrats on your purchase. Unfortunately, the 6 month wait is preceded by a 30-45 day wait just to get to pending status. But then, this is not a hobby for the impatient, now is it?
