I need you guys to help me find a good pistol light for my SIG P229 w/rail. Of course there are PLENTY of options out there, but I want to keep it as small and compact as possible; as I'm sure many of you know, the rail is fairly short on the P229 and I would rather not have a ton of light hanging out past the barrel.

I have about 2" from the trigger guard to muzzle to work with- I do plan on installing a threaded barrel so that would give me 1/2" more to work with before I'm infront of the muzzle. However I'd generally like to keep it closer to where the front of the slide is.

I've had some terrible luck finding anything this short which puts out some decent lumens and isn't $500+.

Any ideas?

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

The surefire lights are nearly twice the length I need- over 3.5".

Insite X2 is pretty small (2.4") and the TLR-4 is a close second (2.73").

Problem is the X2 is only 40 lumens- just not enough. TLR-4 is winning right now; I just wish it were about 1/2" shorter!

Anyone have other ideas?

Damn!!!! Kind of pricy but it looks like the Viridian C5L is leading the pack right now. It's just under 2"... which will bring it in close to the front of the slide!

And 100 lumens....

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

Just try to find a good holster that fits a Viridian ...

They make their own, and I have one on order from Raven Concealment, they can make one with any light laser.

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

I'm not too horribly worried on a holster; I can have one made- what I don't want is a pistol looking like I strapped a 4 cell mag-lite under the barrel.

With a DevGru Switch.

You Viridian fans might want to do some more research. From what I've read, they have some design and QC issues.

If Viridian were a quality product I'd be all over it. Green rules: more visibility, longer distance, and it's even less healthy if it contacts a cornea, for that matter. Unfortunately, they decided to make some bits plastic that never should have been in the interest of economy. Gimme good metal and high quality polymer on a wear item, you know?

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

Yeah I hear ya- that one is the perfect size too. Eh might have to go else where. I think a buddy bought one now that I think about it and it's all messed up.

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

I have heard about a few problems with battery life, and the way it attaches (coming loose), but that was from early last year and prior. Since then alot of the reviews I have read are positive. I do not own one but if I were interested in getting one, I would want to try it firsthand before purchasing.

Re: Pistol mounted light- compact

Apparently my friend's was a viridian, and it was acting all weird because the battery was dead- go figure.

I have had absolutely ZERO problems with my Viridian C5L. It is amazing. all of the different strobing modes. Not to mention a green laser that can be seen in bright daylight. In a tiny package.

It is perfect, and much like my Gen 4 Glock 19 (which runs perfect too) the internet thrusts the few people with problems and amplifies them.
