Picked this up in trade and actually put it up for sale there for a while. Anyway it didnt sell so figured I would throw some rounds downrange with it. Picked up some Rem factory ammo at wal-mart and put up 4-5 shot groups and all were under an inch so figured I might run it some more but the camo Rem puts on these is SHIT. Sooo Today I had some spare time and a bit of acetone. Mix in some Norrels and a JP Tube and I have what might be a winner...

The Black you see on the upper is straight from being stripped with Acetone. All that was needed to remove the camo was some elbow grease, acetone, and a nylon bristle brush.

When I ordered the JP from Brownells I also got some crap to reload some 75-100 grain ammo for it to see what the Semi 243 can do.

Looks great!! I was wondering if the camo would come off. Great job.

The Camo damn near Jumps off the metal when you hit it with Acetone. The white stuff under it that appears to be paint is a whole other cat that you have to skin with a nylon bristle brush.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

Looks good. I'm surprised it came off the buttstock that well.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

    great job

Wow, that is MUCH better than that Realtree crap finish they put on them. I like the two-tone as well!

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

oh yeah MUCH better, now cerakote that thing

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

    Much better!

    Acetone is pretty aggressive stuff.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

The camo pattern on those rifles from the factory suxs. Looks pretty tuff now, I like it.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

I'm still looking at the DPMS version of these. Everything I've read on them showed them to be very, very accurate. May try to pick one up used and then upgrade parts as funds allows. A .308 or .243 would be perfect for those Designated Marksmen comps at Drake.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

Aren't the Remington's made by DPMS? Thought I heard that they were just rebadged DPMS rifles.

Yes they are but for some reason they placed one horrid trigger in these that is even worse than DPMS rifles off the shelf. I would rather have a DPMS marked gun than this.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

Not sure about the horrid trigger. This one came with a nice 2 stage trigger in it. Will snap a pic cause I am pretty sure DPMS does not offer a 2 stage and this doesn't look like the RRA trigger.

DPMS offers 2 stage but not their own. Maybe someone will be able to ad who the trigger comes from becouse its not the same as the DPMS rifles. I never have been much of a fan of two stage triggers, I like a crisp clean single stage set right at 3 lbs. If you like the trigger then thats great it is after all your rifle so whatever works for you is the best. I do have to say this is the best R-25 I have seen since I have always found the camo job didn't fit the rifle well. JMHO

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

That thing looks good without that butt ugly camo on it. Sounds like it is a shooter also.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

You get any bug spray near a camo Remington the camo is gone to. I learned that the hard way. I like what you've done with yours. It looks much cleaner.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

I picked 1 up the other day, but couldnt get over the horrible camo job on these. For msrp of $1400, remington did a half ass job. I wasnt pleased

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

Ive also got a R25 in 243 and I hate the camo pattern and Ive been looking for someone to do it very simular to yours. The rifle is very very accurate shooting. I can shoot .5 MOA at 100 all day long with it.

What about the new free float tube? Are you willing to share info about it as well? How easy was swapping it out. Who makes it?

Re: Remington R-25 with Camo Stripped off.....

    Search JP Enterprises.

They will sell you one directly or you can get them at Midway, etc. Really nice handguards and I'm thinking of getting one myself.

BTW- the rifle looks great. I like the two tone look and A2 buttstock. Clean.

Brownells has them also priced, a bit lower than JP Enterprises.
They are quite easy to install, and as a hint, you really don't need the locktite as the instructions tell you. My first install, I called JP and was told "no, if you know what you're doing the locktite isn't needed".

To the op, that rifle looks 1000 times better than it did with the factory cammo.

Re: Remington R-25 with Camo Stripped off.....

That's one heck of an improvement there. You've gotta be pretty happy with the way that turned out!

Actually, no. I was at the Illion factory last year, and they were making recivers for Remington, DPMS, and others. No sure about other parts. So it may be the other way around to some degree.

Re: Remington R-25 with Camo Stripped off.....

If they'd just ship it like that they would sell 10 times as many!

Hell, it makes me want to go browse the used sections for one!

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

I bought my R 25 in March of 2011. The trigger had a rough, gritty feel to it, so I took it out and polished the trigger and hammer sear surfaces with a Dremel Tool and felt polishing wheel and very fine grit polish. The trick is to polish the flat surfaces just enought to polish the tooling ridges off and not change the shape. Also, you will want to use a smaller polishing wheel to very slightly polish the top egde of the trigger sear so it has an infinitesimally small radius on it. Trigger is smooth as butter now. The break is still crisp, but smooth.

Did the acetone damage the stock or foam inside?

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

the rem factory camo is a dip ie a sticker that is why it peels. rem, dpms, bushmaster, dakota, marlin and a few others are all owned by a conglomerate not rem

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

+1 on swapping triggers, I've shot a buddy's r-25 and the trigger was pretty shitty... CMMG 2-stage fixed that right up.

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

the camo definately scares most folks away from these rifles. Too bad, because they are some of the most accurate rifles produced in that price range. The R15's are sub moa shooters as well.

    Great job on yours

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

A better question is why this old thread keeps getting necromanced, lol. I didn't even notice until now, but look at the OP date...

That would be the search feature. Its better in my opinion to read whats already been than to start a new thread.

BTW 2 days soak in Acetone and a nylon stripper brush only got me as far as a frosty gray park. The pores in the park hold onto the white base coat something fierce! I had to Krylon it for now and decide whether or not to bead blast clean or try to Gun Coat it as is and hope the left over base coat doesnt cause adhesion issues.

2 different types of high quality paint stripper didnt do anything to it either..

Re: Remington R-25 the way Rem should be selling em!!!

Definitely an improvement over that factory camo they do. Nice looking rig now.
