I have a DPMS LR-260 that I have dialed in very good. I currently have a VXIII 3.5-10X50 installed on it during the work up period. I have been looking at the Vortex Viper PST for this rifle. I don't really have a place to shoot beyond 600yds and will mostly be punching paper or hitting steel with it. I'm wondering for what I am doing, is it worth it to go to FFP or save a little bit of cash and go with SFP (been saving up for an AICS AE). Also been thinking about a USO in a fixed 10X. Opinions are welcomed. Thanks guys.

Re: Scope Recomendation.

A Vortex PST in either the 4-16x or 6-24x would work well for that set up. I would go with the 6-24 as you will more likely use the higher power above 16x than miss the 2x on the low end.

FFP is good to have if you ever plan on using the reticle while shooting to hold for corrections, wind or movers.

Re: Scope Recomendation.

Luckly you have a lot of choices! I agree with Rob and would get a FFP. I think the 4-16x would be perfect. If you wanted to go with USO I would suggest the ST-10S "Slimline".

Re: Scope Recomendation.

I've pretty much switched everything to FFP for the simple fact that I have less to think about for ranging/holdovers/corrections. Matching turrets make it the bees-knees. Only down side I would see would be reticle thickness at further distances for precision shooting. If you don't have a FFP yet, give one a try and see how it works for your needs.

Re: Scope Recomendation.

One other question. I have been looking through the hides classifieds and have seen some IOR scopes for sale. I don't see allot of talk good or bad about them. Anybody have any hands on with them? I am really leaning toward the Vortex based on all the raves about CS but I wont rule out other good scopes that are in my budget range $900-$1200.

There were some problems with earlier generations of the scope line...problems with internals. But with Gen 3 or Gen 4...they've addressed those issues. I had an early gen.1-2 scope. Absolutely loved the glass....but had a small issue with the turrets. I will be purchasing another IOR before long. They are about they have about the best pricing for premium German glass going...I would not be afraid to buy one now.

Re: Scope Recomendation.

You don't need FFP unless you are planning to shoot multiple targets at multiple distances under time constraints. For what you are doing there's nothing wrong with the Leopold (although, now that I think about it, I should never say that there's nothing wrong with a Leopold until I have personally tested it
