I thought maybe a 150gr Nosler BT would be a good place to start but is this too much to ask??
FWIW - I have a 20" and 24" 5R w the 1:11.25 twist and any recommendations for a good all-around load(s) (brass/powder/primer/bullet) would be appreciated....thanks!

I've been using 168g AMAX bullets for paper or steel out to 1,000 yards. My standard load for the 24" 5R in .308Win I shoot is a 168g AMAX bullet over 43.1g of Hodgden H4895 lit off by Wolf large rifle primers in Remington brass. I trim the cases to 2.010", full length resize the cases to leave 0.002" headspace with 0.002" of neck tension. Finished rounds end up with about a 2.810" COAL but this seems to vary a bit as I seat based on ogive height. At 1,400ft elevation and 70F this load chronos at 2,735fps out of my 24" 5R Milspec. This is my all purpose target round but I think the AMAX jacket is too thin for game use.
My 5R also seems to like the 175g SMKs over 42.3g of IMR 8208XBR which seems to be better than Varget in terms of consistency and resistance to temperature velocity shifts. Same cases, primer specs, elevation and air temp showed 2,660fps but with flatened primers, no ejector marks and still smooth bolt lift. This load might be closing in on max. pressure for my 5R but it shoots pretty well in a crosswind compared to the 168g AMAX load.
If you have any IMR4895 try the 175g SMKs over 43.3 grains which is clocking 2,700fps out of my 5R with all the same components. This load is pretty accurate and for a .308Win pretty good velocity. But in my 5R this load is approaching the upper limits.
I never got Varget to work very well for my 24" 5R for some reason. I loaded a batch of 175g SMKs moving from 2,550-2,615fps but couldn't get them to shoot as well as the other powders for some reason. Varget is a very popular powder for .308Win shooters but I had much better results shooting other powders. It was worth the try though maybe I'll come back to it later.
HTH!
