Just saw a piece on cnbc about Remington 700 misfires when the safety or bolt is simply touched the rifle fires without a trigger pull. Some call it a "Remington moment"...a clip they showed was from the us boarder patrol misfire from whT looked liked a m24. Anyone have such issues? I always throught Remington was solid, does this happen with any other bolt action rifles?

Re: Remington 700 misfire

not sure .. but I think that some of them worked on the trigger... my Remington 700 has been solid ...

I think that Remington has a rebuttal on their site.

Re: Remington 700 misfire

I caught some of this special and from what I understand of it was that it happened to triggers that were not properly maintained (i.e. dirt, sand in trigger). I believe everything since 2006 has been of the new Remington trigger design. But unfortunately accidents did happen as a result of the general rules of firearm handling not being followed.

Re: Remington 700 misfire

To be honest I think this is a bit misleading.

First off, when micanical parts go without being properly maintained they fail. This could be due to neglect or conditions they are being used in.

Second, there are many Remington triggers out there that have been "worked" by someone that doesn't really have a complete inderstanding of how a trigger works. Just because it "breaks"at 2lbs doesn't make it a good solid safe trigger.

Third, there are a hell of a lot of "old style" Remington triggers out there in the field and being used on full blown custom builds. I can insure you if these were shit or unsafe you would not see one in every other rifle on the line.

I'm not saying there have never been any fail but if the truth be known I'd be willing to bet the problem accrued from one of these things and not from Remington.

I have about a half a dozen of them and never had any problems with them or have any concerns about them failing.

Just my .02 ;~}

This is old news and basically Anti-gun Liberal media hard at work. Try to find one case in which Remington was determined to be at fault. If I remember correctly most were found to be poorly mantianed. Ask yourself of all the rifles that Remington has made if this were a problem wouldnt there be a good chance you'd personally know someone who's had this happen to them? I know a few years ago in a Field &Stream the Model 700 was like the Second most popular rifle in America with only the .30-30 Lever Action in front of it, and the Wincester Model 70 close behind. Don't believe everything you see on TV most stations would air anything they could if they thought it might stop one person from buying a firearm. Just like the shows about how deadly an AK is and how no one needs a pistol that holds 13rds. Leave that shit for the idiots that are dumb enough to believe it.

Have you tried cleaning it out? What are the details of the rifle?

Re: Remington 700 misfire

While I do agree this may be an attempt by a liberal media to shit on our rights...maybe...I also think Remington has employed what Is know as a cost-benefit analysis. In many tort cases, the defendant will calculate the total cost of a recall against the total of the average settlement amounts. If A is more than B, then no recall. To me, if Remington really had nothing to hide, they should have had their CMO, COO or some press secretary address the issue in front of the camera instead of sending out some half assed memo from the legal department. CBS cited one instance in the show when a representative of Remington was on the witness stand showing the rifle would not malfunction, and it did right then and there, the judge had th malfunction placed into record.

Look, I am not some liberal trying to stir the shit pot, i'm just trying to see what if any truth there is to this.
