I am currently having a 308 built by Collier Rifles in Millen,Ga. They have a Kreiger in stock that is a 1:12 twist, or they can order a Bartlein 1:11.25. They have a rifle with that Bartlein in a Accuracy Int stock and it shoots light out. Its gonna be a 20" suppressed rifle, is one better than the other? also the kreiger is $100 cheaper. thanks for any advice or input.

Re: Need advice on barrel

Plenty of Krieger barrels hold world records and have won major championships. They only make one quality of barrel: great. The 1:12 twist should work great for up to 175 grain bullets. The 1:11.25" will allow for a slightly heavier bullet. Bartlein makes great barrels too: both are excellent choices. Hope that helps.

Re: Need advice on barrel

If you would ever like to shoot subsonics with your suppressor get a 1:10 twist or better. The 1:10 twist would let you run pretty heavy with subsonics, and still be great for everything else. Also why the 168's if your getting a custom rifle hopefully you'll want to push it to its limits and the 168's would limit you to about 800. The 175/178's are the sweet spot for a .308. Even if you don't reload they are not that much more for the better performance. Some guys even like the 208AMAX. I wished when I bought my rifle the 1:10 twist was available from Remington but I'm ok with the 1:12 till I rebarrel. If I were buying a custom rifle though I'd make sure that would do everything I might want it to in the future as well as right now. JMHO

thanks for the help, I doubt I will ever run sub sonic loads just for the fear of a baffle strike. This rifle is literally sucking a free penny out of me and I cant afford to fix/replace a end cap on a suppressor. I kind of liked the idea of sticking with something along the lines of the 168smk just in case I wasnt able to reload for a certain event for whatever reason, i could just pick up a few boxes of federal gold match.. i wasnt even aware that the 168s would limit me at long distance.. its something i have to consider.. thanks again
