Hey guys I'm a total noob when it comes to precision rifles. I'm really liking the look of the accuracy international ae MKIII. I'm seeing them going for around $3500 which I'm okay with. My question is r these rifles known to have any issues? I tried searching but not much luck. Also since it is my first aka sniper is it too much of a rifle as a first? Or just get what id get anyways and just purchase once.

Re: First precision rifle

You say you like the look, but have you shot one or carried one before?

I would try and at least shoot one first before dropping that kind of cash. I am sure it will shoot just fine but you may not like the feel.

Re: First precision rifle

all AI rifles are good to go, awesome stuff.

Re: First precision rifle

The Accuracy International AE is a great rifle. For about $4K you can get into a brand new Desert Tactical Arms SRS, which will allow you to run various calibers.

The SRS is shorter and lighter than the Accuracy International.

I went with the SRS and have been very happy with my purchase.

Re: First precision rifle

I just bought an MK3. I can say I am not disappointed in it. Before I purchased it I was torn between AI and a Gap crusader. Not being able to find these in gun shops made it harder. I found someone who let me try their AW, and I played around with an FN in an A5. I ended up preferring the AW because of the balance. The A5 is lighter, but the heavy barrel made it less stable to me.

There are a lot of people who don't like the AI stock. Make sure you try it before you buy. There are a lot of good people on this site that enjoy teaching and showing off their equipment.

Remember that my AE MK 3 weighs in at 17 pounds unloaded. If you plan on hunting or running around with it, their are lighter options.

Re: First precision rifle

Thanks guys for the input... Ya hopefully someone shows up with that stock design at the range I go to. I looked at the srs and it reminds me of a beefed up AR. I actually like the longer size rifles, and 17 pounds is all good I'm not gonna hunt with it or carry it around. My main concerns were if it's a good rifle for a first in it's type... I have ak, scar 17, mosin nagant. Trying to fill the precision rifle spot. What r other brand rifles in the $3000-$4000 range that I should look at?

Re: First precision rifle

Anything from GAP should preform well. If I decide I need an AR10 I will give them a call. Sakio also has the TRG which is similar to AI in that it was designed for harsh use.

Remember that glass is important. You don't need to go super expensive. There are options in the 1500 to 2500 dollar range that will serve you well.

Almost every rifle manufacture has some form of target rifle to choose from. It is about what you like/want.

Re: First precision rifle

not to be a dick but have you looked around the site? theres alot of info to absorb and you asked a very broad question on your first post

Re: First precision rifle

I'm interested in the ai ae's and when I search for it I get everything but what I typed in. The words accuracy and international will give me many threads that have nothing to do with what I actually searched for. I hate to be a dick and ask questions that maybe have already been answered... Thanks for all the help. I'm aware that many companies have precision rifles, I figured people with knowledge about the good and bad would help me narrow it down. I guess I'll wait till I find a ai ae and see how it fits me.

Re: First precision rifle

AI also makes an AICS chassis. You can drop a Remington 700 in it. That also make an AX chassis.

The aics will run about 1k. You could then drop a Remington VarmiNt 308 for less than 900. This will not be an AI but may be it would be a better starting point.

Re: First precision rifle

Ya I've seen that combo.... But i think I'll still be wanting the real one, so why spend the money on a wanna be. I only see that as an option if u absolutely can't afford the real one. I'm sure there is quite a difference between the real and the wanna be
