I am looking at getting a new piece of glass and am interested in a vortex hd with ebr 2 reticle or a scope with a horus reticle. The scope with the horus is not decide yet. I have looked at US Optics, S&B and Nightforce. The US Optics and S&B are a little more money then the vortex and the nightforce doesnt have enough power for me. It is going on a 338 edge and distance will be out to a mile. Currently I have a Nightforce BR 12-42 on my long range rifle, but I have been watching Magpul precision Rifle and I am wanting to try something like the horus reticle.
My question is, does vortex HD's glass and click values compare to those of a higher price scope such as a S&B? If that dosent make since, How accurate are vortex reticles and turret markings to the real world?
Thanks in advance

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

i have 3 razors with EBR2b reticles and LOVE em. i have shot the tremor 2, horus, i also have a NF and have a couple S&B's coming. the EBR2b is my favorite reticle goin right now and the razor is a damn good scope.

Vortex with the EBR - superior customer service, no magic voodoo.

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

Do you also use the turrets or just using the reticle for holds?

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have limited experience using the H-59 reticle at 1000 yards, but we were using the reticle for elevation and wind holds. I was holding the elevation and out at 4.0-4.4 mils for windage. This would be optimal for engaging multiple targets at various ranges, after you mil them you can engage all of them without dialing anything.

I did not find the reticle too cluttered.

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have a NP-1RR and a NP-2DD in my nightforces and I use the turrets about 90 percent of the time.

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have investigated the EBR2B in the field. For someone with tired old eyes like mine the tree has no useful purpose at its mid-range power settings. Even with being darker than the EBR2 it still gets lost in a busy background. I don't know why anybody would place the mil numbering at a half mil off of the verticle crosshair. It needs to be at least a couple of mils away from the central focal area. The numbering is just in the way for a typical wind hold in a hold over situation.

I am with Vinson. I know there are many here who see no value in the Horus reticles. Neither did I until I spent some time with one. I don't find my FOV to be too obscured when I use the H59, and I like it for hold-offs. To each their own, but I like the Horus reticles - just in a non-Horus scope.

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have made my living carrying a rifle for the last 30 years. I love long range shooting but only have average shooting ability.

Been using Horus for last 4 years in the field. I am totally sold on the Horus reticles. For African plains game, Dall Sheep and Caribou it has worked extremely well for myself and my clients. In fact the Horus reticle is all I use or recommend for long range hunting rifles. I know not everyone at the Hide likes it but it has been working very well for us.

I am now sold on the Horus reticale and atrag software. In the last 4 years using the Horus system I have shot 10 small tactical matches in all kinds of conditions. Have used Horus scopes extensively guiding in Alaska under all possible real life conditions and used it in Africa. Many of my hunting clients have also learned to love the Horus reticales.

I have 2 Horus scopes and 1 US Optics with the Horus reticle. The next scope I buy will be a US Optics or Schmitt Bender with a Horus reticle.

My sentiments exactly.

Good to hear! I'm glad there are others that feel the same way. FYI, IMO, the new H-59 is their best reticle yet! I like that floating dot when I dial or shoot groups.

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

Has anyone tried the IOR 12-52x56? It is a MP-8 extreme reticle, but it looks somewhat like the Vortex EB reticles. Also has 100 MOA at 52 power. Problem is a MOA turrets, however it looks like it has a MOA calibrated hash marks.

Anyone tried it?

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have the EBR-2 on my Razor and I have a HDMR here with the Tremor2.

I find the Tremor2 much too busy. I prefer the EBR-2. I declined the "upgrade" to the EBR-2B because I prefer the numbers to be on the far edge of the tree instead of right where I may be holding.

I have yet to see a Horus reticle that I really like and I have been carrying rifles professionally for most of my adult life. (although that doesn't quite add up to 30 years yet).

Re: Horus Reticle vs Vortex EBR 2

I have been using the H-25 and H-37 and like them both but prefer the H-25 for hunting. I had not seen EBR-2 reticle yet so I looked it up online and I agree it also looks good .

Lonewolfe I starting guiding full time in 1978 hunting dangerous game in Alaska and Africa. The problem with that many years in the field is now I am an old fart and guys like you leave me in the dust
