Satern Mfg AR Barrels any good?

So, I was over on barfcom's EE and saw a "Satern" barrel come up that I might be interested in. I've never heard of them though. The specs look great, it's apparently 5R, cut rifled, 1:8, stainless, Wylde chambered, but I'm unsure if this barrel is closer to a DPMS or a Noveske that the ad kind of implies?

Satern's site isn't that great. Do they actually make barrels or does someone else make them for them?

Is $325 for what is claimed to be a match barrel with a brake a good deal?

Re: Satern Mfg AR Barrels any good?

I have heard nothing but good about Satern barrels. However, I haven't had the pleasure of owning one yet. $325 seems like a decent price for barrel and brake..Usually the brake alone is $50-100.

Re: Satern Mfg AR Barrels any good?

Ok so Satern is good to go.

I'll kick this around. The price seems great and I've never had bad luck the twice I have bought slightly used barrels. The included brake is definitely a bonus... Having a short midlength Recce would be the shit.

Very tempting. How would anyone rate Satern vs PacNor / Noveske vs Lothar? Since those are my other options.

I dont have a .223 from them but I do have a 6.5 grendel barrel from them and I can tell you that it shoots .290 MOA, Im actually thinking about replacing my JP .223 barrel with one of theres.

This is a question no one can answer with any degree of reliability. You would have to buy one from each and test them.

Re: Satern Mfg AR Barrels any good?

Satern and PacNor are both premium barrel makers and they both make excellent barrels. To try to suggest one is better or worse than the other at this period of time would be more an exercise in subjectivity I think.

As far as Novesky vs Lothar, please correct me here if I am incorrect, I thought Noveske was not a barrel maker per se, but his reputation was and is for doing fine barrel work and providing fine finished barrels and the like. Lothar is an OEM supplier that uses Lothar Walther made barrels.

I just got my car insurance bill in so it looks like I'm going to pass on this, but I'll know what I'm looking at next time at least.

From my experience, PacNor has made barrels for them.

I have a 20' fluted 556 and a 24' 6.5 both shoot great. Note it took a little over 100rrds each for them to break in after that they are amazing.Been holding on to a 18" fluted 6.5 for my summer build gust about have all the parts.

Re: Satern Mfg AR Barrels any good?

Ive extensively used a satern barrel in 6.5grendel and it was a great barrel with decent speed too plus im a fan of cut rifling.
