After lugging around a 20lb pig of a match rifle my plans to build a short subsonic 308 veered off course and became a diet 6.5creedmoor.

Finished product, weighs in at 11 lbs according to a scientific bathroom scale

-Custom built McRee folding chassis weighing in under 3lbs. AR style stock shed over 1 pound from the standard McRee and there was quite a bit of metal milled out of the already shorted fore grip. The total weight savings was 2 lbs on the chassis alone. The idea started during shot show with Scott McRee over steaks, Crown Royal and this was the result.

-Rem700 short action (standard bolt for the time being due to budget constraints) PTG 1 piece bolt in the future.

-20" Rock Creek rem varmint 1/8 6.5mm barrel. Could not work with anything shorter than 24" before the inboard spider was built. That caused a little delay.

-USO 1.8x10 slimline ERGO MOA/MOA saving 1 lb over a full size optic

-2 piece cheap-o base

-Timinny trigger

- JP recoil eliminator, since the rifle weighs in at only 11 lbs, I wanted one of the most effective brakes on the market to reduce as much hop as possible.

Initial tests were promising with 2670 out of the standard 139gr scenar 41.6gr of H4350 creedmoor load most of us run. 2750+ is easily obtainable with a 1gr powder increase. A slight ejector swipe started to appear at 43.1gr. Shots 2-6 down the barrel produced a .7moa group with no load development and a heavy trigger.

Eventually it will be hydro dipped in some camo pattern but for the time being I think the unfinished silver and black looks kinda cool. Ignore the bi pod

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

I think this is one of the coolest rifles we've put together so far! Its nice to switch things up and try something different.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Looks good D!

So McRee did the work on the chassis or did you lighten it up yourself? I'm looking forward to see how the dip turns out.

I get tired of heavy rifles and scopes too.

Next time I have a barrel put on my MAK I'm going to go a step lighter on the profile, have it fluted, and go 1" shorter. I'm planning on having the action sleeve fluted to match the barrel. Hopefully it'll be 2-3 lbs lighter.

Thank you.

The chassis work was all done by McRee.

The dip is a ways out, i cant DIY that one, and my bank account hates life right now... car insurance, taxes, mortgage and all that crap puts a hurt on my firearms projects.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Is that 11 with bipod and 10 round mag?

That's cool, makes me reconsider some options on a hunter. Any idea what that scope weighs in at?

Really nice bro!

Thanks.

That was with the unloaded mag but no bipod. I threw that on for testing when the pics were taken. I believe the scope is 22oz

Excellent! I would think that Mcree will see the interest in another market option and start offering this? I see they are changing their site, have an announcement on there.

Can you do more detailed pics for us?

Yes i can. JFC can you bring over your camera tomorrow night lol

You might see this one McRees site if there is enough interest in this setup.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Nice rig ... what kind of distance are you shooting with that optic? Considering same for a shorty 308 build.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

That thing looks awesome. wish i had me one of them. 2700 doesn't seem that bad with a 20" barrel ( I always thought that a barrel that short a creed will really slow things down, but i guess not).

I cannot wait until my creedmoor rig is finished. It's gonna be a tank but I think i'll be happy with it.

Its first time out to the range i took it back to 650y. Its defiantly not my 22x im use to but you can still see bullet impacts on painted steel.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Good deal ... looking to max out at around 500 so that sounds perfect.

THANKS

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Looks good--you'll had to go shooting to! I bet Mcree could trim it down more if someone wanted that without harming it's integrity.

My 26" creedmoor launched them out in the low to mid 2800s when it was brand new. In the last leg of its life it is only getting 2760.

Im loading up more rounds as i speak... well type. Starting at 42.5 and loading up to 42.9 to see what works best. As long as im over 2750 it will play.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Drugs and guns. Has all the makings of a fun night... Too bad its just allergy medicine samples, there is nothing worse than a sneezing fit while threading a barrel. I hate spring time

The 5th pic down you can see the recess where a bunch of material was milled out of the shortened fore grip.

Thank you, the Phx match is always a good time. Are you going to make it out for the Vegas match in April?

If i can get things sorted out in time I may try and run this rifle.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

I got the twin sister to Dane's chassis. 7mm and 6.5mm blanks are enroute in a heavy sporter contour to Dane's house.

I just can't decide what caliber I want my next Sin City rifle to be.......284....6.5 CM.....7 CM.....7 SAUM? Probably doesn't matter, those two can make a lead pipe put in some amazing groups!

16" 6.5 Creedmoor?

That sounds interesting, wonder what kind of velocity we would see from our usual load.

Yes! its back in action after almost 3 months of work and shop time. It now sits on a ford 9" with detroit locker, and the front has an ARB. I had many ford 9" parts left over from my old crawler it was cheaper to have a new 9" built than beef up and lock the crappy D35

Its now the perfect shooting war wagon, can set up targets just about anywhere with out getting stuck.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Have you guys shot any factory 140 AMAX to see what velocity you get?

I'm close to receiving my 26" from SAC and curious of the difference.

Re: Diet 6.5creedmoor.

Its got some serious potential to become my next match gun. Just need to address the chin weld and lighten the tractor pull of a trigger before the next outing.

Took it back to play at 1000y today, despite 25+mph wind it was still landing them on and right around a 10" circle. Took 5-8moa of wind depending on gusts and 29.25moa of elevation(100y zero) and that's as much info as I can give since no one had a chrony out today.

139 scenar 42.6gr H4350 at an estimated 2750-2780fps

Have not tried any factory ammo yet.
