Another 6.5 or 308?

I've got everything for my Bighorn/Manners 6.5x47 build ordered or in hand. When that is built I will change the barrel on my Savage 6.5x47 back to my 22-250AI barrel. I've had a .30 cal blank sitting for a little while and was planning on building a .308 with the Stiller Tac30A/W action that I'm getting in the group buy. Here's the kicker... After I ordered my 6.5 light palma blank I found one locally in stock that was a standard palma. I was thinking of going with a standard palma anyway, so I jumped on it. But I forgot about the one I had ordered months before, so now I have a 6.5 blank and a 30 cal blank. The .308 that I have now, I'm going to give to my little brother when he gets home from deployment, so then I will be without a .308. What would you do if you were in my position? Build the .308 as planned and sell the 6.5 blank or build a lighter, shorter, handier 6.5x47 for hunting and sell the 30 cal blank? I reload for both now so having to buy all the reloading gear isn't a problem.

Re: Another 6.5 or 308?

I'll be honest, the .308 is great for commonality of ammo and for learning on, but I rarely shoot .308 after owning a few 6.5s. I'd sell the .308 blank and build a 6.5.

post them both keep the one that doesnt sell. or just keep both...

The dies won't be sitting around. My brother will be using them for the 308 that I'm giving him.

Re: Another 6.5 or 308?

sold my last 308 bolt when I got my 300 Win Mag and 260 Rem., but still have the 308 in a DPMS....sorry I guess I`m no help. I want them all!

Re: Another 6.5 or 308?

308 is just an all american caliber kinda like owning a Remington 870 everybody should own one whether they use it or not. If for nothing else the commonality of ammo. You can get a box of 308's at walmart in a pinch

Re: Another 6.5 or 308?

6.5 is so much flatter shooting with less wind deflection i would built the 6.5 to climb mountains with. 140gr bergers are ideal for hunting most thin skinned game in america man. that being said an automatic 308 is a nice thing to have when a group of wild hogs show up....

Re: Another 6.5 or 308?

Well, I think I have my mind made up now. Just got back from my range and shot my Rem 308 and my Savage 6.5x47. My 308 didn't fare too well. But here's what the 6.5x47 did. I was pretty impressed with myself. Target is a 100% IPSC

1000 yards, 25 - 30 mph wind from 10 o'clock, 5 round group. First shot of the group is the bottom left (almost missed) dialed 1 moa up, then the next 4 shots without touching anything.

Wow that's awsome man, I been realy bit by a AI AE mk3 in .260, I think those 6.5 mm bullets are the answer to all my problems.
