Hello everyone my name is Brian and I have been lurking around here for a while now. I figure it may be time for me to try to take advantage of everyone's knowledge. I hope this is the right forum.

I have a nice AR package that I'm looking to trade for a nice 308 rifle. My question is can you help me decide what rifles I should consider. I want to be able to shoot out to 1k yards; I know I wont be able to do this right away but I would like to get a rifle capable of doing so. I would also like to stick to 308.

the trade value I will be looking at is between 1200-1600 So I would like to know what my options are between that price range.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

I looked at most of the remingtons and they dont really get up to the value of my trade except the XCR and upwards from there. I have/had a XCR lined up but the guy has become unresponsive.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

Jellostorm is right the 700p is a very capable rifle and leaves money for optics.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

I'd get a 5R over a 700P. The stainless will be easier to clean up and it's a little faster twist rate for the heavy stuff.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

I have several 5R ' s and they shoot .5 inch groups, clean real fast. For the money, they are hard to beat. 5R threaded, good stuff. Get a Timney first thing and some decent glass. I screwed on AAC BRAKES FOR MY CANS, and they work great without the cans too.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

ok so I ended up getting the xcr from local hide member mustafa. nice guy and good to deal with. thanks for all the advice.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

Well thanks to everyone for all the help unfortunately I now have to sell my rig to get my backyard landscaped. Can I ask is my price is fair without someone trying to think Im looking for a way around the classifieds rule?

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

I own a 700P and i'm very happy with mine, would do it over again the same way.

Wow. You and I have vastly different priorities.....

I guess mainly because I spend more time at the range than I do in my backyard.

Re: Nice 308 Long range Rifle

without a doubt get a tikka t3 varmint in 308, for a remington to shoot with it, its going to need quite a few tweaks most likely. I have t3 lite that shoots .5 moa, a varmint model should shot as well or better. all 3 tikkas I have owned will do .5 moa easily with factory ammo no less. an allen wrench in the mag well will drop the trigger to 2#'s, mount a scope and shoot.

LW, I just stroked a $2k check for landscaping...and ordered a prometheus. Most times, in my house, it's important to balance keeping the spouse happy with all that I spend on this sport.
