What is essential in your range/field pack when you go out? I dont ever take much, but I am open to wisdom from the community, because there is nothing worse than getting all the way out to hunting camp without some essential piece of gear.

Re: Whats in your range bag?

Pen and paper. That way when I forget something I could write it down so as to remember it the next time!

Bring whatever you think you'll need. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but everyone packs different. I pack like a woman on vacation! haha I look at my gun stuff and throw in anything I think the possibility will arise to use. But some guys bring ammo and nothing else.

Re: Whats in your range bag?

Depends on what the drill of the day is, but eye/ear protection, targets, stapler, staples, sunscreen, bug spray, Mechanix gloves, and a Shemag are always in my range bag.

Re: Whats in your range bag?

eyes, ears, tools, targets, tape, Otis cleaning kit, log, pencil, pen, kestrel, rear bag, ruler, ammo, and skittles

Re: Whats in your range bag?

My rifle bag is my range bag. Rifle, Rear Bag, Shooting sticks, ears, ammo, targets, stapler, staples, gloves, tool kit, shooting mat. Bug spray, tripod, 100 foot measuring tape, and a few other items are allways in my vehicle ready to go.

I wear prescreption safety glasses 24/7.

Don't forget extra batteries for electronic ears, illum. reticles, rangefinders, chrono.... twice I've gone to fire up the chrono and found I left it on and killed a battery, or my peltors go dead.

Re: Whats in your range bag?

I keep 2 bags. 1 has the essentials I need for shooting practice, match, etc. The other has targets, tools, etc - things that are range need only.

essentials-
eyes, ears, sunscreen, kestrel, databook (includes drop charts), ammo, mags, rear bag, batteries, laser range finder. Optional based on task of the day - water, snacks, lunch, rain gear.

range only-
targets, stapler, tape, tools, torque wrench.

When I'm at the range, the range only bag comes out of the truck only to go down range and setup targets, then goes back in the truck. This way I can keep separate what basics I need for shooting from the "extras" I use at the range. My goal is to keep the essentials bag as light as possible. If I go to a match, that is the bag I carry. If I go hunting, that is the bag I carry. If I'm carrying it more than from the truck to the firing line, I want to be sure that it has a purpose.
