I'm planning to take 4-6" off of my 26" TRG .260 barrel because I want to use it as a mountain hunting rifle. Does anyone know how much weight that will save? The weight difference between a Tikka 24" and 20" .260 sporter is listed as .3kg (.66 lb). That seems like a lot...it would be nice to drop nearly a pound and have a 20".

Re: TRG barrel weight

I dont know how much weight it will remove but I do know that the rifle will feel lighter and less front heavy.

I have a TRG42 27" bbl and a friend has the TRG22 with the 20" barrel... big difference in handling.

Make sure whoever does the cutting puts a nice crown on there.

Re: TRG barrel weight

I have a 20" 308 TRG and 26" 260 TRG. The difference in weight I am not sure, probably guess 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound. The balance and handling difference is huge, much easier for offhand shots. The 20" with a TBAC 30p-1 suppressor feels like the 26" without anything on the end of the barrel.

I plan on using mine as a hunting rig this fall! Should be sweet hunting suppressed in TN!
