Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

This may sound like a funny question but - Do you recommend the optics set-up (scope, rings and base rail) to others with Remington 700s?

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

yes, i do. The base rails and scope rings are very similar. what your paying for is the precision and material of it.. and the way i have mine set up is a well rounded set up for all Remington 700 users. Badger makes great products, Mostly Milspec and nightforce same thing. No worries there =)

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

i totally agree! i've read so much about them and not many have anything bad to say about it and the groups it shoots is just amazing!

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

also the scope if your looking at shooting over 1000 yards then this scope is right for you. but really this scope is a great scope which is gonna cost you around $1,700, but hey its a awesome scope. Best part is it has good glass and beautiful structure and its 1 quality scope.

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

Better figure on something like a Timney 510 trigger. Just a suggestion for your project.

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

My 5R sits in an XLR chassis.

My funds did not allow for the tactical butt stock yet.

The 5R is an excellent rifle and the XLR is an awesome product.
Kyle does not let anything out of his shop unless it is excellent.

I continue to piece it together, so far:

5R
XLR Chassis
IOR 3-18x42 + VTAC steel rings
Weaver extended 20moa multi-slot rail
barrel threaded with protector
Old style Remington trigger set to 3.5lbs
Side Bolt release
Custom bolt knob

All upgrades performed by Mike's Gun sales and service

Up next:
waiting on approval for tax stamp, Jet .300 WM titanium suppressor.

After that will be a steel scope base, maybe higher rings for the scope.

Will shoot it for a couple of years then install a Schnieder 24" M40 profile barrel.

Sounds like you have an awesome set up. i would love to see some pictures of your rifle if possible. Keep up the awesome build. .. Also a schnieder 24" sounds like a really badass barrel. how does it compare to the stock 5r barrel?

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

Dont they all use just a Harris BRM-S, nothing custom there I think..?

Should be a sweet rifle anyway, good luck for your build!

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

There is no such thing as an M24 type short action M700. The M24 action is a nothing special Model 700 long action.

OP check your trigger, if you find it deffecient I'd second the Timney 510 its the one I have experience with, Rifle basix is also reportedly good, read up on Jewell, its reputation is inconsistent if its not on a range queen.
You have yourself a good foundation.

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

Raiders !!!!!!! LOL we went to a game in San Diego last year and damn those raider fans were crazy. The Chargers lost

Cannot tell you how many times someone shows up at the range with some ridiculously built 700 and they call it an M24... Always bugs me. M24's aren't special. The knowledgeable men and women that shoot them give the M24 its reputation.

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

Oh thank God you guys called him out on that "short action M24" crap. The M24 is simply a Remington 700 long action. Besides having screws in the side to mount iron sights, the action is no different than any other Remington 700 long action. Your end results will be so much better if you start off with an excellent custom action (I highly recommend Defiance actions which are used by GAP, BlackOps Tactical/Skunkworks, etc.) And a cut rifle barrel (Rock, Krieger, Bartlien, Satern). Best of luck either way.

BTW, what is the bipod the CIA is using and how do you know this for a fact? Last I checked, SAD wasn't posting TO&E or deployment kit lists on any website. You have some special website link to share?

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

$1700 on a leupold. Makes me lol. Could have got a nightforce

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

This is a funny thread. Reminds me of a bunch of grab-assing juvies.

Trapped!

I was just waiting for someone to mention that.

It's not a A US Army "M24". It's the "The Cartmann-M24-AE-Mark-III-mod-34-Bo-Jackson"

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

I am sorry you guys are not aware that the "The Cartmann-M24-AE-Mark-III-mod-34-Bo-Jackson" uses a Remington short action. In the future that may change though. However, as for now, CFIC (Cartmann Firearms Industrial Center) will be using the Remington Short action for their "The Cartmann-M24-AE-Mark-III-mod-34-Bo-Jackson" Rifles. Please do not confuse the "The Cartmann-M24-AE-Mark-III-mod-34-Bo-Jackson" with the US Army's M24.

Re: SNIPER NEW REMINGTON 700 5r MILSPEC PROJECT PART1

I don't really care what someone calls their gun, I really only care about range reports. I like to see multiple 5 shot groups at whatever range you shoot at. We all have wallet groups we can show but better to know is what it can do everyday not just what it did when the stars were perfectly aligned and the moon was in your house.

Backin' off,

What if they called their gun "Richard Simmons", or "The Great Patriot Jane Fonda", or "Bin Laden is Great".. would you care then?

Raiders are like 3 in 24 games here in San Diego. Every once in a while you get caught not looking.
As to the fans I think they parole and bus down all the convicts from LA. Crime increases about 30% during the few days before and after the game. Just sayin'

I lived in San Diego for a little bit, and I was shocked to find almost as many Raider fans as Chargers fan... now to get it back on topic so I don't get another ban....

Just got back from the Range, it was not that fun because we had up to 40 mph wind gusts that comes and goes, it's stilll pretty bad now as I write this.. check the weather if you do not believe me.
wink.gif

Regardless gun still did decent. Got about .5 MOA @ 100 yards a couple of times, but was mostly around 1 MOA. Which sounds horrible, but considering the conditions, I think is pretty good. My Savage, which I consider a half-MOA gun (on a good day), get's about 1+ MOA on days like this.. so I know it's not the gun. I am thinking the magic load for this gun is 42.5gr Varget in LC cases with 175gr SMKs which gets me about 2650 fps at the muzzle. Next trip I am to load up a box of just 42.5 gr to see how it does with this load. Also will do more testing between 42-43.5 gr.

I really do not even care then as I am still more interested in how it shoots as that tells me something I can use. If I choose to build a similar rig I probably would not name it all, but knowing how it shoots is important because that may help me.

Man you wold not care if someone name their gun "Jane Fonda the Great Patriot"??? I myself would be a little upset if someone were to name their gun that (though I would not do anything about it)... you are a much better man than me!
