I'm not sure that it would work. When I was hunting for a scope I came across this thread that had Gen2 XR reticle at different magnifications. At 8x you can start to see the reticle, but that would be at max magnification for the 1.1-8 scope.

I have both the 5-25x and the 3-15x, I can assure you it would work, and it would work very well.

I was planning on getting one of these after a friend of mine received a demo model of the 1.1-8 back in 2009, however with the price tag north of 3K I'll wait and see how the S&B is priced.

I had this in my in box today from a request for when the S&B PMII 1.1-8x short dot was going to be available in the states...

I'm trying to compare these two with any others in the top end. I'm trying to get one for my son who is hopefully on the way home from Iraq in a week or two. I don't have to purchase for another 6-8 months. He will be going to afganistan on next tour. I'm looking for a scope that can at least work for a Good M4 or my LMT Defender 2000 or potentially a good 308. Since he does not know what the next tour will require I'm looking at the 1-8x but if a 308 is the weapon then maybe a longer range scope will be the ticket. Any additional information on these scopes or others in the class. The new Mark 8 is to high...

I think since the USMC and other branches are getting a lot of new glass and they come first! I'm still debating on the S&B 1.1-8x short dot, PR V8 1-8x and a few others but the new Mark 8 is to high it was $3999 now down to $3699. I like the PR V8 if you have any feedback on these scopes... what about a 2-10x?

USMC is not buying S&B 1-8's that I'm aware of.

I hear ya, but the battery life on an Aimpoint T1 is in the 5 year area - whereas the 1x8 scopes it's something like 100 hours. Pretty significant difference.
Also, if your battery dies on your Aimpoint, your BUIS are readily available. Not true with a 1x8 optic.

I would simply prefer a thick enough reticle that is useable at 1x without the lit dot.

That's my bet. The last delay announcement coincided perfectly with the PSR contract win announcement. Scopes all take the same lathes and mills to make. My bet is those machines have been pretty busy the last several months on the PSR scopes and an easy way to ease the congestion was to simply delay as scope that wasn't released yet anyway.

PR just updated their website and there is no 1.1-8x or 1-8x V8 listed on it.
