I've been lurking and soaking up info around here for a while now and finally decided to open up a little. So, here goes.

Last year I commissioned Specialized Dynamics to build me a custom .260 Remington for long range hunting and shooting. I had high hopes for the rifle and to be perfectly honest, thought that maybe I had set my expectations a little too high. After spending some time at the range, and spending some time in the field, it was apparent that my expectations regarding the accuracy of this rifle had not been met, but exceeded. No expense was spared. DPMS LR upper and lower, Magpul PRS stock, Jard adjustable trigger, Apex Gator Grip handguard, Bartlein 1-8 twist barrel, and the Vortex Razor HD 5-20 scope. 1000 yards is nothing for this rifle as long as I do my part. After very little range practice, I was fortunate enough to kill a California Bighorn Sheep at a distance of nearly 700 yards with ease.

Although I was more than pleased with the SD .260's capabilities, I wasn’t thrilled about the overall appearance of the rifle. I thought that maybe I was just being petty and tried to forget about it. I had requested Multicam camo as a finish and it just didn’t turn out like I envisioned. Nothing wrong with the camo at all. The color pallet was just too bright for my liking. A friend of SD spent a lot of time applying the Dura coat finish in custom Multicam. The problem was, he had never done Multicam before. Not his fault really and I commend him for his efforts. SD was great to work with and didn’t charge me for the finish. My hat’s off to Scott for his help on this dream of mine. Nonetheless, I had a five thousand dollar gun that I wasn’t totally happy with that could be remedied rather easily.

I called my good friends, die hard predator hunters, Todd and Scott Springer at www.hydro-dip.com. I explained my dilemma with the boys and they assured me that they would have the AR looking like the belle of the ball in no time. They had dipped two of my guns already and had never led me astray. I had full confidence in sending them my precious SD .260. I told them that I still felt that Multicam was the right choice for the gun but wondered if there was some way to personalize the gun? It had all the bells and whistles of a true long range rig but just didn’t look the part of a true killer yet. They came up with an idea and I gave them the green light.

The hydro-dip finish truly is a piece of art. It’s extremely durable as well. I can truly say that Scott and Todd went above and beyond any other dip job I’ve seen. They’re passionate about what they do, and they’re dang good at it. Everything I’ve sent them has far bested my expectations. They’re aren’t the cheapest dippers out there but I’d rather pay the extra $30-$50 that they charge and have it done right by guys that deserve my business because the have truly worked hard to earn it. Thanks Springer brothers. You, my friends, are a class act…

What a gun!

Re: Specialized Dynamics AR-10! (pics)

nice write up. i am still waiting on my SD 308 upper to be finished. the skulls hide in the multicam pretty well. me likey.

Re: Specialized Dynamics AR-10! (pics)

I think the camo came out very well. Nice to have a gun that not only shoots good, but looks good.

Re: Specialized Dynamics AR-10! (pics)

That has got to be one of the coolest camo jobs I have seen in awhile.

However I will be the dick that tells you that isn't an AR10. It's an LR-308. Try to stick an AR10 magazine in it and see.

You're right! It's definately not an Armalite. Thanks for the heads up, description has been edited.

Re: Specialized Dynamics AR-10! (pics)

I am curious...what made you decide to not do the scope?

Re: Specialized Dynamics AR-10! (pics)

I usually have my scopes dipped but realized that I wouldn't want to use it on another gun if it were dipped to match this one. With a $2000 scope, its nice to leave options open. Just personal preference. Love this scope btw!

Now I'll point out he can, in fact, stick an AR-10 magazine in his gun as long as he's using a magazine from the origional AR-10 designed by Eugine Stoner when he was working for the real Armalite.

Got a lot of those magazines bouncing around do you?

I was attempting to point out a helpful difference. You can be argumentative and further confuse the issue if you wish, but how does that help the OP?

If I wished I could list every component that is cross compatible between the two. I have done a considerable amount of research on it. However all it would do is confuse the matter and lead to someone thinking that one thing will work when it doesn't.

If you really want to dig into the magazine issue, Armalite is now offering rifles compatible with the original Stoner design. That does not in any way make a LR-308 and closer to being an AR10.

If you are confused....just read the side of the rifle.

Wow, I gotta say, it looks great now...but it looked really bad before.

Thanks fellas. Glad you like it. I hope to have a can on it soon. I'll be as long as a nightmare but, oh well.
