the sub-sonic appears to be about a buck a shot.
How popular is the ammo at this point? Will it be the new best thing; there by become more cost effective?

I see it at Cheaper than Dirt regularly. It is getting easier to find and would expect a price drop as more people start shooting it. Reload and it only costs you .40 each using your brass.

+1 with reload. If you reload and save your brass, it probably less than 40 cents each. May be around 20-25 cents if you don't go with really expensive bullet.

My local guy just got a 2 cases of the 115gr UMC stuff. Its really nice. I'm hoping to see more in the future at stores but I also reload so....

My concern it purchasing the upper and then the ammo manufacturers having me by the #@%!
I hope it would become more cost effective as popularity increases, however, I don't, at this point, know how popular it is.

There is plenty of ammo available for the 300BLK. Just about every major manufacturer has jumped on the bandwagon except for Federal and Winchester. But I hear they might be working on some loads. Come on by the shop we have a pretty good selection of Blackout ammo. In the past year or so, it has taken over as our #1 ammo sold.

FYI, for the subsonic rounds, 220 Sierra Match Kings are used for the bullets.
They run around $.36 each when bought in bulk.
(By the way, this price is expected to skyrocket due to the HUGE spike in demand…)
That is by far the most expensive component / load for the 300 BLK.
All the other components are very cheap.
~ 700 rounds per pound of powder = $.04 per round
~ Federal 205 primers = $.03 per round
~ Converted 5.56 Brass = $.10 per round
or
~ New Remington Primed Brass = $.20 per round (When subtracting the cost of the primmer)
If you are looking for a cheap subsonic load, check out the 247 grain NOE cast bullet.

It is a cast lead bullet that you can make on your own.
If you are using lead wheel weights from your local tire store, the bullets can be made for literally pennies.
If you do not feel like getting into boolit casting, look around.

Since a friend of mine owns a tire shop and we haven't switched over to "Green" wheel weights yet, it was a no brainer for me.
He is just happy for me to come over and clean up around his wheel balancing machine. ;D
