Is it Possible to change caliber?

I have a savage model 10 fcpk in .308 with the accutrigger, accustock and muzzlebreak. I want a gun in .25-06, but i do not have the funds to buy another rifle. Is it feasible to swap out the barrel/action to .25-06? Or would this be more expensive in the long run? I live in canada, is there even a supplier of these kinds of parts? Savage only sells this model in 223 and 308 i believe, so it would need to be aftermarket?

thanks for any input you can provide

ahh yes, so if it was a long action all i would need to do is swap out the barrel?

Re: Is it Possible to change caliber?

30-06 to 25-06 can be interchangeable barrels, 25-06 would work as a single load only on the .308 (short) action(to eject an unfired round may require using the bolt release)

Re: Is it Possible to change caliber?

Unless you're set on a 25-06 you could re-barrel it to a .260 Rem while not the 25-06 it does have a flat trajectory and a simular range of bullet weights as the .25. This is a short action cartridge.

Just a thought

interesting thought. next question is; where can i purchase such a barrel?

Re: Is it Possible to change caliber?

If you want a new barrel I recommend the gunshack group buy:

http://www.gunshack.com/groupbuy

$160 buys you an ER shaw 26" varmint contour barrel in 6, 6.5, or 7mm (just make sure you choose a cartridge that can be chambered in a short action such as the 6mm rem, 6.5 creedmore and 7mm-08). After buying the barrel all you need is a barrel nut wrench, action vise and go/no go gauges and you're good to go.
