Madison, Ms
Friend of mine just bought a gap 10 w/ an 18 1/2" bartlein and badger ordinance metal. Hes rich so I told him him to go ahead and put an NXS on it (for resale value). I also told him to get a 1:11:3/4 twist and shoot 175's out of it. It's a .308, and he doesn't reload so I figured he'd be good to go with fgm 175's. Question is anybody pinging at 1k. If so what's your Moa at that distance. Thanks

Under what conditions at what muzzle velocity?

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

I have the same setup but have primarily shot the 155 Scenars through it - tell him to give those a try too.

yards mils
700 +5.0
600 +3.5
500 +2.5
400 +1.6
300 +0.7
200 0
100 0
50 -0.5
25 -1.5
15 -2.5

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

He lives in Texas So I would imagine he'll be pushing the 175's around 2680 fps. He's a newbie so just trying help him out a little to get him started.

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

I doubt he will see 1680 put of fgmm. Its only advertized at 1600.

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

That's where a bartlein comes into play. Got a crusader. It pushes em a hell of a lot faster than what's on the box. Maybe not 2680 but atleast 2640 +~

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

I have the .308 w/ a 22" barrel. Below is the numbers I got when I did ammo testing. I didn't have any .308 FGMM in 175SMK to test out, but I have some on the way and then I'll do a more compiled review. I was banging steel at 1250 yards with the Copper Creek and it was on the slower side. Black Hills sucks ass though and had the worst groups. I'd stick with FGMM if he's looking for shelf ammo. Both McCourt Munitions and Copper Creek accuracy wise are awesome...

FGMM .308 168 SMK
Avg FPS - 2668
Hi - 2701 / Low - 2648

FGMM 7.62 175 SMK
Avg FPS - 2607
Hi - 2621 / Low - 2607

Black Hills .308 Win Match 175
Avg FPS - 2564
Hi - 2599 / Low - 2522

Copper Creek .308 Win Gas Gun 175 SMK Match
Avg FPS - 2569
Hi - 2624 / Low - 2541

McCourt Munitions .308 175 SMK Comp Match
Avg FPS - 2690
Hi - 2713 / Low - 2656

I have a gap 10. I cronod the 168 fgmm last friday and the avg was less than 2500.
You will not see that velocity out of a gas gun

Something is wrong then man. I chrono'd the 168's on 2 separate occasions and I'm always over 2600+ FPS

Might be prudent to mention that all chronographs are not the same and some may, hold on....wait for it...,not be the super accurate instruments we all wish they were. So maybe the differences are due to what is used to measure them. Food for thought.

Agreed... I did use 2 separate chronographs though and got the same numbers from both. Using those same numbers in a ballistics calculator we were getting first round hits on steel at 1250 yards...

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

My .308 18" with FGMM shot 2484.6 Avg. The low was 2467 and the high was 2502.
With the Southwest 175's in the FC brass my avg was 2570.8. Low was 2534 and high was 2608.
I had had a DA of about +1500. I'm about 800ft ASL

I was kind of surprised at the low numbers myself. I did borrow the crono from a guy at the range that day.

I am curious to see the results of the OP's rifle with the FGMM and the 18" barrel.

What is an inch of barrel good for on a gas gun? 50? 75?

I was told each inch increase the fps by 20-30fps by one of the ammunition vendors. Is there anyway you can check the FPS against your come ups at like 500-600 yards?

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

I will get all that info this weekend.
PM inbound...

Re: GAP 10 drivers.... How do they handle up to 1k

I used 155gr Scenars in a GAP .308 AR built with a 22" Obermeyer barrel. That is a .5" gun pushing the 155's at 2820fps.

After chasing 1k with .308 for so many years, I finally accepted the limitations of that cartridge and went .260 Rem, also by GAP. My .260 GAP AR will shoot within MOA at 1000yds without changing my wind hold, even if the wind changes within 3-7mph.

I recently shot it at 1k off my truck bed, rapid-fire, off the bipod, with a mirage-boiling target using 10x on my Vortex Viper PST, and got a 9.25" group with the 130gr Berger VLD's on top of 43.3gr of H4350. I have a 22" Bartlein pipe in it. At 100yds, it shoots 5-round .4"-.6" groups with 139gr Scenars, 130gr VLD's, 140gr AMAX's. The worst it has shot is .75-.9 MOA outside of accuracy nodes.
