I am thinking about getting a nice watch, for my own personal pref I dont want a Rolex. I was thinking of a Tag Heuer specifically the Formula 1 chronogragh 42mm. Any opinions?

Re: Watch guys need help

I've had a Rolex GMT Master II and a Breitling Airwolf. I sold the Rolex for $1200 more than I paid for it brand new just because I couldn't justify having 2 expensive watches. I like the weight of the Rolex and the size, but hated that it didn't have a digital time, and required winding if I didn't wear it everyday, which I didn't. I love my Breitling, of course my wife bought it for me. Tag makes nice watches, if that's what you like. I'm a pilot, I buy Aviation related watches. Do you have any hobbies? Something that could define your next watch purchase? Part of me has to say if you're spending much $$ on a watch, why not get one everyone recognizes, ie a Rolex. Because I can promise you that a $400 Citizen watch keeps the same time as a Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Panerai, etc...of course it doesn't have the "style" factor.

Or a twelve dollar Timex, Which "Takes a lickin, and keeps on tickin.".

You might want to talk with a member here 'Tschiemer'. Havent seen him post lately but he used to trade a lot of watches here on the Hide.

The accuracy of a quartz beats an auto every day of the week, it's no contest.

Autos look cool, and that alone is enough of reason to buy one, but autos lose time and do require maintenance.

Dollar for dollar, if you like dive watches, the Japanese Seikos are damn tough to beat.

Re: Watch guys need help

I have had my Citizen Eco-Drive Aqualand Analog for almost 12 years. The only time it went back to the shop was for a cleaning the second year I had it, and after OEF VII I sent it back because Panty 6 left it in the drawer instead of the sun and it died....full on solar power in all eco-Drives, so they, like us, need sun. Aside form that(I didn't want to take an expensive watch to Afghanistan and toom my deployment dual time Timex expedition).

If I had a few grand to lay out for a watch, it wuld be the Tag Heuer to be sure for around $1100, but day after day, this Citizen keeps excellent time according to the USNO Atomic Clock

Re: Watch guys need help

I have two Tag Heur AquaRacer watches. I love the quality and stick loyal to this brand. Those who have Rolex watches feel the same about their preference. Go Tag Heur and you'll be happy.

Plus use the money left over from not buying a Rolex and spend it on gun gear.

Re: Watch guys need help

I've always liked the Omega Moon Landing Watch. My wife got me a Ferrari watch that I've been wearing lately... it's pretty dang cool

Very true. Having a good watch from a name brand manufacturer does turn some of the wrong heads. My dress watch is a T-H and it has that effect.

Big thumbs up for any Panerai, but it's a lot steeper price than the F1 Tag.

Re: Watch guys need help

Ive got a Tag that I have been wearing everyday for the last 15 years. I have beaten the hell out of it, but it still works like a champ. There is not a single scratch on the crystal (which surprises the shit outta me) but the bezel looks fairly rough.

I have often contemplated buying a Rolex Sub and some day I will probably have one, but my firearm/optic/suppressor addiction has won out everytime so far.

Re: Watch guys need help

They all have their strengths and weaknesses. However I think most any Swiss made watch with a name you recognize will be well made. In the past I was a Breitling dealer and other then cost to service I like them a lot. Rolex holds its value unlike any other bar non. I have personally a Rolex explorer 42mm, two Breitling Ti dive watches and a SS Panerai dive watch along with some other beaters. That Tag you listed is a good looking nice sized model I have one in for repair now that a customer messed up. I like it. Whatever you get take care of it because they will all kill you with service cost... Good luck PG

Re: Watch guys need help

I didn't debate this long on my Nighthawk. Sounds like I may have to go shopping

Re: Watch guys need help

Rolex Submariner and Omega Speedmaster Professional are about the two most iconic watches out there. If you're just getting into the Swiss stuff I'd start by looking at those two.

Re: Watch guys need help

Ive always wanted a Tag. Still do.

In the meantime I bought a Swiss Army and like it too. The AirBoss is really nice

Re: Watch guys need help

The Omega Seamaster diving watches are nice and I like Hubolt Oceanographic 4000 for a more unique watch.

Re: Watch guys need help

I have a Rolex, Eco drive, and 4 Swiss army watches. Like them all but my every day watch is my a Swiss army i beat the hell out of it and it takes it. the other watches i where when im in the mood or going out. i cant where them to work they would get destroyed. my swiss army is looking rough but for $350 its going on 7 years of bad abuse.
