hey guys,

I'm quite new to the long range scene, but I just traded in one of my shotguns for a BNIB sako trg 22 in 308. It's the 26 inch version in green with a prethreaded barrel and rail. Now all I need is a scope

... I'd say that was a good trade!

Get a Schmidt and Bender and be done with it. The Sako and S&B were meant for each other. Like chocolate and peanut butter. . .only a bit more expensive.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Must have been a fairly nice shotgun!

I don't think I can drop S&B money just yet. I was looking into a nightforce 5.5 22x56 nxs, but I am also open to leupold as well. I haven't heard anything bad about about and they are priced fairly well.

It was one of my caesar guerinis, specifically the summit limited sporting model. I traded that plus $600 for the trg.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

+1 for the nice trade. I have a NF 5.5-22x50 on my TRG and it works awesome!! Now strip that 308 barrel off and build something fun!

You wont be disappointed with a NF scope on the TRG.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Check out the SWFA SS 5-20x50 too. Great glass for the money.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

There are a lot of scopes for "less" than SB money...as in pretty much EVERY other scope.

How much are you cool to spend? We can advise you better if you give us:

Price range
Intended use
WTF shotgun you traded to get a TRG!!!???

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

I say Nightforce all the way!! I have two of them and love them. Check them out at EuroOptic, the Price includes shipping (at least for me the shipping has been). EuroOptic has always been great to me.

If so those are some very nice and very pricey shotguns </div></div>

correct

my other one is a maxum, which is quite a bit more than the summit. I'm sort of glad I traded in the cheaper one because I know I would of had regrets if I traded the maxum in.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Take a look at taking that rail off and using the Spuhr mount to mount directly to the action. Sell the rail to fund part of the bipod purchase... the bipod is awesome!

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

The TRG is a great platform.

You should decide if you want a Front Focal Plane or Second Focal Plane scope, MOA or MIL, and your price range and then make your decision.

Nightforce is a great scope, but they only offer FFP in 3.5-15 power. Plus for the price of a FFP Nightforce, I would prefer to spend a little more and get a Premier.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Thanks guys.

As far as the scope, I ended up ordering a bushnell 3.5-21x50 per recommendation from a friend. It has gotten great reviews and is a bargain from what I have been told. I may end up moving towards a schmidt and bender or premier in the future, but this will do for now.

Don't. The short eye relief combined with the short rear tube make this scope a pain to mount on a non-LOP adjustable gun. If that wasn't enough, the one I have has an out-of-spec main tube (best I can figure that's where the fault lays) to where it won't drop into the (IOR) rings. You can push the tube into the rings but then it binds the magnification adjustment ring. One of these days I'll get around to sending it back (and then dump it at a loss).

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

the bushnell FFP scopes are GREAT scopes for the money. And people will always be wanting to buy one used. I'd buy any of the Bushnell FFP scopes and save up for your S&B.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Wow I would like to know what kind of shotgun that was. That was a great deal.

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

Must of been a really nice shotgun! Congrats on the new TRG!

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

I have got an early 80s Remington 1100, rust is minimal. Would you take the shotgun plus $600 for the TRG?

Re: Just traded in one of my shotguns for a TRG 22

A 5.5-22x56 Nightforce is what I put on my TRG22.

It is a very practical range of magnification from a well tested manufacturer. It is hard to go wrong with the combo.

Just food for thought.

Even high end tactical rifles are cheap compared to alot of O/U target scatter guns. Kolar, Perazi, Beretta, Kreighoff and numerous small makers come to mind.

Really, short rear tube on a 3.5-18?

It is not that short.
Besides, the TRG does have an adjustable LOP.
I am sorry you seem to have recieved a bad scope OR rings. If you haven't given them a chance to make it right, why bitch?

Loo up holland and holland, David McKay brown, or James Purdey. 10k wouldn't even cover the cost of the wood.
