Just purchased 2 of these little gems a couple of weeks ago to replace the keltec I had. Damn fine little pocket gun for when I have shorts and flops on running into the local store.

Very solid little gun, feels like a small 1911.

Accurate.

Has chewed anything I fed it: Winchester range ammo, Herters brass case ammo, and likes the CoreBon DPX that I like to carry.

One was missing the tension screw for the holster that comes with it. Called Sig and she would not send me a screw, sent a brand new holster instead.

Perfect gun for the wife's purse and the cellphone pocket in it.

Its not my Kimber, but it is a nice gun IMHO.

Re: Sig P238

Frankly, I'd take that over a Kimber, but thats my opinion. I own two 238's and they both shoot well and anything. Good purchase.

Bill

Re: Sig P238

Glad you like them!
I shot my girlfriends P238 Equinox a few times, and found it to be very accurate with all the ammo I fed through it.

Re: Sig P238

I own one and like it. It's a well made little gun, and I sometimes carry it as a BUG to a .40 or 9mm.

Re: Sig P238

I don't get the "philosophy of use" for these things, with it's cocked/locked SA trigger.

To each their own, of course, but a dao striker-fired pocket pistol makes more sense to me.

I agree. I've been looking at .380's and of course the 238 popped to the top of the list, but that SA trigger knocked it out of contention. Now I'm looking at the Bodyguard by S&W

Re: Sig P238

I bought an LCP for my wife a few years ago opting to pass on the P238 because of the price diffrence and every thing I read on the LCP at the time. Big mistake with in a year we purchased a P238 rainbow. She carrys it every where and loves the way it shots, she likes that she has real sights. Compared to other 380s I've shot, LCP, SW Bodyguard and Kel Tec the P238 is hands down the best. It shots great for what it is.
VTgunner the SW Bodyguard is a nice gun. Two friends of mine own them with the lasers, just a heads up. Both had the lasers stop working with in 6 months of the purchase. im not sure if it is an issue with the laser or them playing with the thing, but might be something you want to read up on.

Re: Sig P238

^^^^What this guy says. I carry a lcp and my wife just bought the equinox 238. The more I mess with this gun the more I want to sell the lcp and get one. It's really a great gun.

Re: Sig P238

You make a great point, even though you may not even realize it...

Any pistol with that little "spark" that helps its owner actually TAKE it with them, is a good pistol for that person!

In this case, if your wife brings it with her, thats all the rationale it takes to justify that pistol.

The 238 is one of the few 380s that employs the Browning tilting barrel semi-locked breech design. Most 380s are simple blowback, which significantly increases recoil...

Also, you mentioned a real set of sights. That is nice, and something most little pistols forego - which is BEYOND me. I understand little guns aren't for bullseye shooting, but come on, give me a REAL set of big boy sights!!

Thanks for pointing out a couple of the finer points of the 238!

I'll still stick with my Kahr PM9 though...

PS: I know several people with bodyguard 380s and 38s that have had lasers fail quickly too.

Re: Sig P238

I have and love my p238, it's my summer carry gun in Texas, easy to hide, feels and shoots great. Yes its SA only but it has a safety and it goes in a holster. I carry with a 7 round mag to use it as a pinky rest, carry the 6round mag in pocket.

Re: Sig P238

Without fail, everyone that I have let handle the gun and shoot it, they have sold their Ruger, S&W, and keltec to go with the Sig.

I looked at the Ruger several times but never bought one. One buddy at work has had his back to Ruger twice, the others using thme have had no problems. Have not shot one.

S&W had a really stiff safety. Have not shot one of them either.

Keltec is what I had previously. Felt very flimsy, cheap. Started having feed problems pretty quick and had to carry it with -1 from full mag for to to feed correctly. When two friends at work had theirs back multiple time and still failed...see ya Keltec.

I would not take a Keltec given to me. For my dollars, P238 is only way to fly in .380.
I bought one of these from Shooter's in JAX and it came with Hogue grips and the extended mag. That was a nice addition and it is the one the wifey carries.

Re: Sig P238

i like my p238 equinox but im going to go with the new p938 after i give it a few months. sounds like a winner to me a 9mm 238

Re: Sig P238

I can't find a better gun for shorts and t-shirts than my P238. I carry it with an iwb mag carrier....both externded mags of course

Re: Sig P238

These are very nice weapons. Suprisingly accurate. 2 friends bought the equinox, I got the standard black, with NS. I like my J frame wheel gun, but this is even more easy to carry.

Re: Sig P238

Have had 3 of these. As far as carry weapons go, this tops the kist for me. I'm in Texas and 364 days a year it's hot as balls, so a lightweight compact carry is a must. Also shoots very well. Can make 5 rounds touch st 20 yards consistently

Re: Sig P238

i suppose they'd handle the buffalo bore +p ammo......not sure if i'd run that stuff in a LCP

Re: Sig P238

I also have one of these little pistols. The really like the way the gun shoots and handles. But I was wondering if anyone has had issues with the grip screws being to short and falling out during shooting. My pistol is the bi-tone model came with the silver plastic grips which was replaced by the first owner with the redwood grips. Now one of the bottom grip screws want stay screwed into the frame. I looked at the frame and can see the threads are buggered up about half way thru the frame. I think this and maybe the redwood grip is a little thicker than the plastic ones is causing the problem. Not a big issue as for as fixing it just wondering if this was a issue with other guns or if I just got a lucky one.

I'm a huge fan of the 238 and have had one for a few months now. I've shot the kimber a bunch, but it was so damn particular for what ammo you fed it. In the end, it was nickel case high power hollow-points only. I've never had a problem with the 238.

I'm not thrilled about carrying it cocked and locked though.

Re: Sig P238

Khooks, ive heard others mention the grip screws coming loose when shooting and seen a couple up for sale missing one of the screws, lost is usually the comment. Cant say if it was while shooting or it fell behind the work bench. I put blue locktite on mine and never had a problem. Then again i locktite everything on my guns that doesnt move or come part during regular cleaning.
If your screw is funct up and that still doesnt hold, contact sig and have them send you another or im sure brownells sells them for a couple bucks.

Re: Sig P238

no one has had any feed or failure issues? I've heard a of some issues with these,

Re: Sig P238

I have not had any issues with mine.
There are certain p238 serial numbers that sig has a recall on. If you go on their ebsite it will tell you. There was a problem with the feed ramp contacting I think the magazine and the rounds would not feed properly. There is a video on youtube on how to correct this yourself. A corner of the feedramp needs filed down.

Re: Sig P238

I've already bought 2 extra screws funny thing is Sig sends you to a gun supply parts dealer and the shipping cost more than the screws. I have an extra one going to locktite it down and may put a drop of super glue under the head so it glues to the grip. I really like the pistol for my intended purpose but firing when the grip comes lose is less than desirable.

Sure, but what does that leave you with? Keltec, ruger, kahr, etc.? I'd take a p238 8 days a week over those choices, and I don't have 900 for a seacamp.....

Re: Sig P238

Sold my lcp and bought a P238 SAS. This pistol is super smooth. The SAS has the edges smoothed so it is more comfortable to carry.

Re: Sig P238

My feed ramp had a nick in it but I took a sharpening stone to it and all is fine now. They also had a spring replacement setup for some of the older ones. Mine shoots fine and is my summer gun with a 2 mag iwb kholster.
