Need suggestion for ammo for 16in M4

Gents,

What do you guys reccomend as the best choices(s) of ammmo for a 16inch .223 with a 1:9 twist rate? I have read anything from 55-69gr should do fine.....just depends if I want to shoot pigs or shoot steel.

Suggestions would be very helpful....also, best places to get about a case of the best ammo would be great.

www.bvac-ammo.com is where I get my ammo when I'm to lazy to reload and it has been great stuff.

i would look into southwest ammo. they have great 69gr ammo that probably some of the best quality you'll find in that price range.

I've also had good results with hornady tap, black hills, and bvac ammo.

maybe check out surplus ammo and arms, they have great deals also.

Yall think 69gr ammo is the best way to go in terms of price vs acuuracy and stabilization?

Ive heard back from Zak at SW Ammo and he thinks 55gr will work fine for shooting steel...and that the I should use the heavier stuff for hunting etc.

Any thoughts?

I had great success in a Stag rifle with the cheap white box 5.56 winchester. 3/4" at 100 and hit a turkey in the head at about 100. Good enough for me.

My issued duty ammo is Winchester 64 grain soft point and has done very well on hogs and deer for me.

Some of my collegues have founds it works extremely well on two legged critters as well.

Man, there are a ton of choices here. I'm used to shooting 7.62 so this is pretty new to me.

Think I will just get a case of xm193 and scourmthemnetbfor the cheapest price,I can find.

Without telling us what range(s) you intend to shoot at, very difficult question to answer.

If you intend on shooting within 300 yards or so stick with the 55 grainers. If you go past that try and find 62 grain.

You're right, there are a lot of choices. You're also right that a 1:9 twist barrel should work well with 55gr - 69gr bullets. In order to figure out what works best, you'll need to experiment and see what your particular rifle likes.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a case of anything until I found out what tends to works well in the rifle.
