Eotech...most used?

Re: Eotech...most used?

I have three 512's. They're the cheapest and they work just as well as all the others. No reason to pay $100-250 more for a different model that does the same thing. Unless you're using night vision you'll be ok with this model.

Re: Eotech...most used?

Was using a 552. Just didn't have enough realestate to hold it and a Troy rear BUIS. Now it is equipped with the Eotech XPS 2-0 from GG&G with the accucam and lens covers. My present go-to AR is the 10.5" LMT MRP. There is definitely enough ground on it.

Running into the same issue with the department AR's. The Eotechs that they are presently equipped with hang off the front of the receiver and bump the delta ring.

Re: Eotech...most used?

I also run the 512. I like that it takes AA's instead of eating the 3V's. Granted, either way the battery life on an eotech is pretty long but the 3V batteries just aren't something I keep around and can be pretty pricey (I'd rather spend the $ on ammo).

Re: Eotech...most used?

I run the EXPS3 and I love it but some might not. I wanted to have compatibility between all of my batteries that I use. Both of my lights and my laser system use the CR123 battery. I wanted an EoTech that uses the 123 battery also, that limited my options. I use both a magnifier and night vision so that limited my options again. I like the side mounted buttons so I can snug up my accessories to the sight, again narrowing my options. With only one sight left I picked up the EXPS3 after selling off my 553 that I upgraded to after selling my 512, both of which are great sights and the reason I love the EoTech sights.

Now the EXPS3 comes with its own built in quick release mount that you cannot change out, it is what it is. This can create a problem for some shooters who like a positive hard cheek weld. I bring the gun up to my head not my head down to my gun, like you should. The EXPS is so high that in order to get reticle centered your cheek rest is very low on your face. You can still use your irons but they are at the very bottom of the sight, if you have time in a firefight to flip up your back up iron sights you have time to take off the EoTech.

It took over a year for me to find a solution to the height problem but I found the perfect solution and it solved other problems at the same time. I found a company that made a stock attachment for the SOPMOD stock that I have been using. The company is a small one called Battleline Industries. They make some innovative body armor and what they call the SAPR. This gives the shooter the ability to adjust the height of the cheek rest, not the height that some guy in a lab coat decided it should be but a real world shooter with his own gun with his own sights. This stock attachment also lets the shooter adjust the but pad up and down to fit his own body or armor that they are using. Then it also rotates the but pad to cant at any angle the shooter decides works best for them. This solved a problem I did not even know I had but makes for a very stable shooting platform.

Well that is my two cents on what EoTech I use. It is just my opinion but the EXPS3 is a great sight made better by the SAPR from Battleline.

Re: Eotech...most used?

.

I have a 512 too, but I am not very happy as the reticle almost disapear on sunny days and light backgrounds.

I tought the batteries was dying, but after changed it, the reticle stays the same. So, I am looking for an alternative...

I'm assuming this is after adjusting the brightness? Hit the button with the "up" arrow a few times while looking through it.

Re: Eotech...most used?

I have the 553 on my DD SBR and I am pretty happy with it. I also have a tough time in bright/direct sunlight seeing the reticle clearly. It doesn't disappear it's just considerably harder to see. The only reason I bought the 553 is because of a good deal not because I use night vision. If I were to buy new I would definately get a smaller version

Re: Eotech...most used?

I've had the 512 for a long time and it does what it is supposed to do. Very quick target acquisition at 100 yards and in. I like the fact it takes the AA batteries as well.

Re: Eotech...most used?

i own a 552 and a 553, i really like both of them. If you truly need the night vision capability - make sure your decision has that factored in. If you get the capability and have no need for it, then you waste some $$. I use mine on a M14 in tandem with AN/PVS-14 a NVD for night time, and the other on a raging bull .44Mag.

My $0.02

Re: Eotech...most used?

512 because I have too...issued on my duty gun. I had a personal 552 that I sold a few years ago that was GTG.

The agency I work for had roughly 600 512's in the field and we have has many, many issues with reticles disappearing, battery contact falling out and battery life sucks.

Do yourself a favor and buy an Aimpoint.

You are correct. Even adjusting the brightness to its highest... the reticle almost disapear on bright sunlight and light background.
