    But only $2.00

Though it seems some lucky sob just won 1/2 billion dollars.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

The news said 3 people won MD,KS,IL. Fuckers.

I don't usually play (stupid tax) but I bought $10 worth and only got two numbers right out of 50 lol. Most I've ever won was $50.

Wonder how many welfare dollars was spent on lottery tickets. Never bought a ticket my self, but I bet I paid a lot of tax dollars into the welfare system so deadbeats could.

You really hit it on the head, Kraig. I only buy them at times when the payout is huge, but at the convienience stores the ones yuo see people who you know are at poverty level buying them like ice in august.

It's legal to use welfare in many casinos. Only recently did law makers start making it illegal but only in a few states. It's really no different than somebody buying a bunch of food with their food-stamps and then buying $200 of beer with the money that the food-stamps freed up.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

I was in a store here yesterday someone spent $900 on tickets. I wonder if they even got half of that back?

I've never understood how a system that is all about wealth re-distribution then supports a system that is all about wealth consolidation. If I were an alien watching this practice, I'd add it near the top of my list of why this species is too stupid to be involved in my intergalactic federation.

It's consolidation under the guise of redistribution to the few who lobbied/donated successfully.

I'd arm the photon torpedoes and give them (us) a whoop'n.

Its a tax on the poor and middle class.

In reality the Lottery System is a tax on Hope.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

Actually it's a tax for HOPE, well at least here in GA where the lottery pays for the HOPE scholarship :p

Always seemed odd to me that the majority of the people who play the lottery are ones with very little education, and that they're the main contributor to sending kids to college here.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

I spent $5 , not really caught too up in all the hype, altho it's the first time I've bought tickets in a couple years. My return was, like most, NADA. I think I got two numbers on one line. Oh well.

It is a HOPE tax...as most of us are generally optomistic. Oh well, I'd probably just get into (more) trouble if I had oodles of cash.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

I watched a documentary on the lottery a few days ago called "Lucky".

It was a fairly sad documentary. The only couple/persons who won that I felt it really was being used well was a Vietnamese couple who were using it to improve their family's life in Vietnam, and who purchased a tract of land and built houses for all the family in the states to live close.

There was another, a former near-homeless man, but he was a little retarded (literally). He won 5 million and moved into a motel with a "simple life" including, of all things, strippers and a daily helping of expensive steak dinner. Not begrudging, but it seems he could have been advised a little better on things.

There was a lady who has not won a huge jackpot but spends, admittedly, 70-100 dollars a day and is CONVINCED that she will win huge one day. Ghetto rich mentality. Very sad the way she wastes family funds.

I'd feel compelled to pretty much give it all away if I won, lest I become a real materialist. Then again, I'd have to play to win- and I don't play.

    FWIW, Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery':

Wonder why the rich don't play that much--still so sad.

Yep. Typically referred to as the "Poor People Tax" in these parts. I voted against it and never have bought a ticket.

Check into how many lottery winners are broke within five years. One moron (forgotten the state) won twice. Killed himself after squandering his last dollar.

Just like a gallon of gas, the government sees more than anyone else.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

Florida touts the $5b in lotto revenue they've collected for education, and to be fair, they've put billions into the education budget.

Then pulled it out to finance the pet boondoggles like the "Florida Taj Mahal".

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

ive been homeless before, lived out of a tent and worked 3 jobs to get back up. Lived bare minimum in a shoebox apt and went to college. I took grants but was too proud to take any "welfare or goverment assistance". Winning a lottery always sounded like a good dream, but so does finding out your secretly some kind of royalty. Its just a dream. Hard work, disciplene, and a good sense of pride will get you anything you need.

    Re: I WON....Megamillions

I got the shaft but when I bought my two tickets I knew I was throwing that cash away. Too bad I do not live closer to TJ. It was always fun to toss a handfull of coins to the kids.
