Re: I WON....Megamillions
I watched a documentary on the lottery a few days ago called "Lucky".
It was a fairly sad documentary. The only couple/persons who won that I felt it really was being used well was a Vietnamese couple who were using it to improve their family's life in Vietnam, and who purchased a tract of land and built houses for all the family in the states to live close.
There was another, a former near-homeless man, but he was a little retarded (literally). He won 5 million and moved into a motel with a "simple life" including, of all things, strippers and a daily helping of expensive steak dinner. Not begrudging, but it seems he could have been advised a little better on things.
There was a lady who has not won a huge jackpot but spends, admittedly, 70-100 dollars a day and is CONVINCED that she will win huge one day. Ghetto rich mentality. Very sad the way she wastes family funds.
I'd feel compelled to pretty much give it all away if I won, lest I become a real materialist. Then again, I'd have to play to win- and I don't play.
FWIW, Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery':
